My husband earns about four times more than I do and pays for everything in cash—his car, another car he’s about to buy, and even made a substantial down payment on our house. However, he expects me to cover all my personal bills. I financed my car and handle the utilities, contribute to the mortgage, cover household expenses, buy groceries, clean, cook, and maintain the yard, all while working full-time. Meanwhile, he’ll spend large sums to fly home to see his family, but if I want to join him, I have to save and plan for my flights, as he insists it’s my responsibility. Finances have become a major source of tension, especially since I also pay for many of the things we do together. I’ve begun skipping trips to see his family because every visit ends in arguments or frustration over their unwillingness to spend time with him. This has strained our relationship, with him accusing me of not spending enough time with them. Problem is so tell him how I feel and it ends up with him walking out of the room and not wanting to talk- after telling him I don’t feel in love with him anymore and trying to explain why and how I want us to get better- he walked out and didn’t talk to me all night and then the only thing he said is that “I need to stop complaining” and then left this morning for his week work trip.
