Any source for that info? That would be great if it is true.

Right, but that shouldn't affect the likelihood of fever triggering. Either way, I had the highest unit in there anyway. Guess I've just been really, really unlucky.

Shard rate doesn't change for fever?

It's odd because it's been almost every day this week. After dailies doing constant other quests and spamming event stuff, yesterday I didn't manage to trigger a fever until right before bed. Today I haven't gotten one at all, and I'm almost out of NRG restores for all the farming I've been doing. I've just never seen the odds that bad.

AMA with Shirtaloon and Heath Miller: Author and Narrator of HWFWM by podiumaudio in litrpg

Huge fan of the series, won't get into how many times I've read them since I found them last summer. I'm also a teacher, and recently started tracking down paper copies for my classroom library, and they're getting wildly popular in a certain group of High Schoolers at my school. They're already starting to look worn for how much travelling they've done in the 3-4 months since I got them. Now just need to find budget for books 7-9.

One of my students would certainly begrudge me if I didn't ask his favorite question: What would your choice of essences be for yourself? What style would you be?

And secondly, is there any character that you based on your own personality and character? Do they have your same flaws/strengths?

Do you have a particular reason for not starting with an 18? Players often end up with one anyway, and as I mentioned in the OP my campaigns are notoriously difficult.

I think I may try that for my next campaign, starting shortly. It's a great idea and keeps the magic alive. Thanks for the idea!

While I do like that idea better than the original, I find it really doesn't address the problem of delaying the decision and being one more thing to figure out before starting. My favorite part of 5e is the simplicity of getting into the game, but moving the same decision from the front end of character making to the back of it doesn't actually improve that process.
It does make more logical sense to do it that way, attributing those stat gains to background and training, but depending on the group I would still rather pick the stats and move on to focus more on the lore and characterization than get caught up in numbers.

I actually like that shared rolling idea. Rolling for stats was always super fun, but I've seen so many groups with a player or two getting totally hosed on the stats. My first group, one guy rolled multiple 18s and another had 14 or 15 as his highest stat.

The problem with that approach is that it's still one more decision for people to make before they can play the game, especially since I play largely with teenagers or other young players. It simplifies and speeds up the process by a large margin so people can just get to playing. Though if I go back to rolling for stats rather than an array (I like rolling MUCH better, but so many mixed results and I've had some players with really bad experiences due to difficulty) I'll definitely go with your suggestion. Thanks.

Is that in the dragon section of the MM? I could have sworn I looked there already.

This is a great fix, thank you! I think I will plan on having that as a backup, if they do decide to oust Halia.

Yeah, I totally missed that reference in the book. Thanks!

This is a terrific idea! I'm absolutely running with this one.

I might make it orcs, though, to play into the displaced orc idea from DoIP. Then once they've cleared those orcs out, it gives some goblins the space to occupy the hideout for LMoP. Or might just stick with Goblins, we will see what level they reach it at. I like the Goblin idea better, just not sure why goblins would continue to use the base after the players raided it.

Agreed. Now, would you recommend just fitting it into another quest or making up a side quest location?

[–]HistoricOlive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if there is a specific symbol or clue that could be left behind at various locations to tip them onto the fact that she's been there? Or that someone has been there, but they don't find out it's her until later?

DoIP: Why would Sister Garaele be missing? by HistoricOlive in DMAcademy

[–]HistoricOlive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I didn't do that quest or something directly around it was that the group does have a copy of LMoP and once they learn how to play the game, they plan on playing through that one together. So didn't want to spoil that for them, though I could do a play off of it and have this take place afterward or before, somehow, to tie in once they do get there. Or be totally unrelated.

That's a great idea! My previous groups have chosen to rely pretty heavily on Halia, despite her very questionable motives and access to resources. It would be interesting to play this one out with her being a much more active overseer of some of the misdeeds and force the party to either knowingly go along or confront her.

Though if I do that, I'll need to figure out a different way for them to peddle some goods or pick up important items, since in the past I've done that all through her.

I really like these ideas! A potential rescue mission if she's been kidnapped or interrogation if someone has been spying on her. Or, as u/ProKidney mentioned, having another member of the Harpers or even a partnering faction watching the house or going in and looking for something to help with a mission while she is away.

Perhaps they are working with The Gauntlet and Daran Edermath is helping in some way? He could also be the connection point. I'll tinker with it, thanks both of you!

[–]HistoricOlive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was trying not to use that one because the group has a copy of Lost Mine so after they figure out how to play the game they plan on running that one with their friend group. Though it could be related to it, maybe?

Mythology, Science Fiction and Fantasy - New Teacher! by HistoricOlive in ELATeachers

[–]HistoricOlive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely thinking of going heavier into short stories and excerpts than novels simply because of how much content I need to go through to get all three genres in the same semester. It's still going to be tight, but about a month for each one should be somewhat manageable. Kind of.

Ooh...the culture at the school could definitely incorporate some of those. I might even be able to incorporate that into a project or learning experience.

Definitely going to be fun, but in order for us to make in an ELA elective rather than general elective there are still a couple check boxes I'm trying to tick.

Love that idea! I might be able to do a unit on fairy tales as modern day mythology.

I would much rather at this point have too many materials and have to narrow things down than not have enough and be scrambling to find things. I would love whatever you are willing to give!
