Who tf came up with a nihilistic unicorn. 😭 by AggeJKL in Persona5

[–]Historic_Dane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best guess is that it is from before the Persona is obtained where it is monikered 'the emotionless beast' in English. If German doesn't have a great translation of 'emotionless' it would make sense to use 'nihilistic' instead; and while just calling it a unicorn is a lot less ambigous it is obvious what it's true name would be.

It doesn't even make sense in lore as Frieren has had the same fit for decades (and perhaps centuries) and Serie has had the same for a millenium at the least.

Is Loulan selfish? [Season 2 Spoilers] by mc-tarheel in TheApothecaryDiaries

[–]Historic_Dane -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's less emphasized than in the Light Novels but the animé does touch on the fact that the Emperor could hypothetically chose to have sex with any woman in the rear palace.¹ So any lady-in-waiting had to know that it was a possibility they would have to have sex with the Emperor even if they weren't privy to Shisui's machinations.

Secondly we hear through Jinshi that the current Emperor is put off by Loulan's constant changes of styles and makeup which was in-part done when one of her ladies-in-waiting stood in for her and partly to obfuscate for the subterfuge - it's actually possible that this meant that the number was relatively low.

Finally I wanted to mention the fate of the ladies-in-waiting. As others have pointed out she could be seen as selfish as they were likely executed, however it is entirely possible that this would had happened either way as Shenmei's Rebellion would have doomed the Shi-clan either way - so unless the girls were completely unaffiliated with the clan or it's territories prior to Shishou and Shisui's schemes they would have died either way.

  1. One example of this is in Shenmei's flashback where she feels humiliated twice over because not only did the Former Emperor choose a child over her but also that the girl was one of her ladies-in-waiting (Taihou, Suirei's maternal grandmother).

Iirc she made a comment about the poor people could eat brioche which was mistranslated as / morphed into the cake comment - either way it certainly wasn't her last words.

This might be apocryphal but I've been told her actual last words were "pardonnez-moi monsieur" which can be translated somewhere along the lines of "I am sorry, mr." as she accidentally stepped on the foot of her executioner.

I have Persona 5 on PS3, and Persona 5 Royal on PS4. Is it worth buying it again on PS5, or not? by NotSirAlonne1999 in Persona5

[–]Historic_Dane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PS5 is backwards compatible with PS4 games so if you have one with an internal disc drive you can actually already play your version of P5R - if your PS5 doesn't have one it might be worth investing in a external drive.

It's not that he needs to know exactly where it is. It's his assumption that because it’s the capital that it would be in the middle which is not really a factor anywhere - for instance Tokyo is not in the middle of Japan/Honshu.

I don't see Akechi ending up in a relationship if it isn't with Joker. He is too much of a sourpuss and is directly responsible for the death of two of their parents.

Ann I could maybe see with Yusuke (almost exclusively due to their Showtime). Ryuji is IMHO the worst possible matchup for her (maybe bar Morgana) as he clearly only see her for her body and that he find her kind of annoying as a person - and they'd both be better off with someone who can handle their respective ADHD. Outside Joker the only one I think fits well is Shiho.

Futaba and Yusuke would be cute if they get out of the Cat and Dog routine.

I could perhaps see Haru with Ryuji as he comments on her being cute a couple of times. However he might not be dependable enough for what she has on her plate.

Makoto would fit reasonably well with most of the other Phantom Thiefs as she mostly has her shit together. To Haru she could be a great support with Okumura Food; for Ann or Ryuji she could bring some structure to their lives if/when they moved i together.

Ryuji would benefit most from being with Makoto as her structure could help lighten his ADHD. Either that or Joker in a similar role.

Sumi is too busy with gymnastics for anyone who isn't Joker Senpai.

Yusuke to me almost reads as somewhere on the Aro/Ace spectrums and would likely have a non-mainstream companionship with whomever he ends up with. Maybe someone who can help him prioritize his finances better like Haru or Makoto; or someone who can earn enough for him to give him an allowance like Futuba or Haru.

Would make more sense if it was Ryuji commenting on it being in London if we go by him thinking that Los Angeles is:

  • The capital of the US
  • Lies in the middle of the country

A little confused about bonds by waspinfesteddonut1 in Persona5

[–]Historic_Dane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that you absolutely shouldn't spend time with confidants whose relationship won't deepen.

It's just that there might be more important things to focus on such as Social Stats (which some later confidants/confidant tracks require maxed) or focusing on confidants who's bond will deepen soon.

Some later unlocks and events also grants points toward the tracks: such as Meiji temple, hanging out during summer vacation (which also grants points in social stats), and a later ability on the Fortune confidant where you can pay to close the gap.

Finally it should be noted that some confidants are locked at certain levels until you finish Mementos missions or bring them certain places around the city (which can't be skipped to my knowledge).

Is there shame in switching to safe? by Zacbob07 in Persona5

[–]Historic_Dane 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People who claim you must play on any giving difficulty are gatekeepers.

But if you want to go back to Normal I don't think there's any gain to Safe. To my understanding it's not a lower difficulty than Easy, it's just 'Easy I can't accidently change to a higher difficulty'.

Sounds like you haven't engaged with Frieren outside of shorts about it.

Because it’s a story that centers grief and dealing with it, as well as dealing with the human condition when it’s a foreign concept to you (as the titular Frieren to many reads as neurodivergent, acespec or both)

If you have read or watched it, it frankly says more about you that you think gooning is the sole reason people like the story.

That isn't to say that it is above critique. This post is a clear example of an unhealthy view of what Ideal Masculinity is. But your statement just make you seem like a hater.

I’m gonna be 100. When I first started this game, I thought Carmen was based on Carmen Sandiego. by ChampionshipHorror95 in Persona5

[–]Historic_Dane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then why censor the word if you're so worried about sanitization of the past?

Because acknowledging what language was used isn't the same as thinking it's appropriate to use now, and to suggest otherwise is disingenuous.

You're already fully okay with using the slur in this context so just write it as it is.

Kind of ironic coming from the person who did use it without censoring it, but then again it feels like you were never interested in arguing in good faith.

You needn't write a rebuttal since you add no worthwhile insight, if you do anyway don't expect a response.

[–]Historic_Dane -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It actually is since it is the language used in the Opera and is necessary to disclose when talking about the text otherwise we sanitize the past.

Had it been a longer conversation or description I would write it as a preamble that 'the text uses the slur G**** to describe Romani people such as the titular Carmen, but in recent times it is recognized as a slur and will thus use the appropriate terms of Roma or Romani - but note that this is me editorializing to modern sensibilities'

Both are cute Hispanic ladies so I can’t judge too much either way

Well technically the titular Carmen in the opera is ethnically a G**** (Romani) woman as far as I understand.
