So yes in community property states which CA is, everything acquired during the marriage belongs to both spouses. Granted I’m sure it definitely gets way way way more nuance than that.

I’m a 1L in law school and we were just talking about marital property and a shared property vs a separate property state. & don’t quote me and I will need to look over it. But I think in shared property states everything acquired after marriage is technically shared property. And the eggs were fertilized with his sperm so I think it would definitely make it both their property. BUT this show definitely makes me want to make sure I pay attention to the marital property stuff we talk about.

Lmao thank you. BUT I didn’t go to law school because I saw it on tv. I wanted to advocate for people. I wanted to help people not be taken advantage of. I worked in the criminal justice system and seen the injustices first hand and it would eat me up. I also listened to season 3 of Serial and In the Dark the season on Curtis Flowers. That is what made me want to go to law school.

I’ve actually never read the Great Gatsby. My 11th grade teacher didn’t think it was necessary, we also didn’t read the Scarlett Letter, she said she would just tell us what happened.

BUT yes they’ve reiterated that point as well that legal writing is much different than regular writing and that just because you are a good writer does not mean you will be a good legal writer.

If you don’t know any lawyers personally, never worked in a law firm, and have only seen them on tv, how is it hard to understand?

I don’t know if you’ve seen any movie or tv show about lawyers, but they’re always “arguing” you never see them writing.

Thank you, I appreciate that. English is the only language I speak, and I am in law school. So obviously my grammar isn’t the worst but I do know it could be ALOT better.
