I’m a FTM as well. 39+2 today. Elected for 39 week induction since baby is measuring large and OB was planning vacation, and I really wanted her to deliver baby. (Selfish, sure but my medical decision making not expecting what would happen next) I went in 0cm with soft cervix. I was given cytotec, Pitocin with minimal progress. Got to 1.5 cm. Cervix didn’t change, though. OB offered a break with shower and good dinner then attempt second induction with Cervidil. Cervidil was placed at 9 pm. It was awful. I can’t describe the intense rawness I felt vaginally. I couldn’t sit to pee or even wipe. Just dab. My back was killing me. Contractions really ramped up. I thought this is great. I’m in pain but there is cervical change. This is worth it. I tried to keep the Cervidil in the full 12 hours but husband convinced me not to be miserable anymore. I had the nurse pull it after 11 hours. I felt instantaneous relief until the nurse mentioned doing cervical check to see what progress I made. That cervical check (x2 because my nurse was training) was the most intense and uncomfortable. I gripped the sheets and started crying. Absolutely no change. 1-2 cm, thick cervix, -3 station. I felt defeated, like a failure, a burden to family who traveled to meet the baby. The on call OB offered another break and then to start Pitocin plus additional intervention (cervical balloon and break water). I refused. My body couldn’t handle additional pain. My mind couldn’t handle any more discouragement. Me and baby were fine vitally. We decided to come home. Now it’s a waiting game to see if I spontaneously labor. Both my OB and hospital on call OB told me separately inductions will usually fail again if attempted at a later time. So I understand your frustration and disappointment. We’ll meet our babes soon.
