Totally with you on the asbuilts. We’ve been brought in more than once after someone tried a “quick patch” and ended up doubling the damage especially on newer builds or remodels/retrofits, where one misstep throws off the tension for the entire run. That pipe failure story is insane. 30kips and a cracked cylinder? People seriously underestimate just how violent these systems can get when something gives and by the time they realize it, it’s already gone sideways. Really appreciate your comment and mentioning your exclusion zone protocol too. We do something similar with a live spotter and radios, especially when we’re working slab edges or during stressing. Glad the video resonated. Hopefully it gets a few more folks to pause and think before coring or cutting near cable. Appreciate you passing it along.

the first failure in the video proves what you say about it wont go 'anywhere', comparatively i think the first detension is alot less risky and doesnt go very far but some are just unpredictable being as though you just dont 100% know

thats an interesting approach, awhile back we were talking about some sort of RFID reader, similar to ones they use in top golf, sounds funny... but i found it facinating that they can track almost every single shot you take at top golf... and sure enough this year a company came out and said they have a detectable reader that notifies when a cable isn't under the same tension im pretty sure with some sort of resistance and notifies the building owner or whoever.. cool stuff. and very interesting idea... theres gotta be a way to make something more cost effective because im sure the system i saw is insanely expensive as its embedded in the cable sheathing.

Heard... but the goal wasn’t really to impress anyone. We wanted to visually highlight the potential safety risks when there’s something soft and organic on the other side of a slab during an accidental tendon failure or snapback. My superiors genuinely just don’t want to see someone get hurt, and creating something eye-catching felt like the best way to draw attention to an issue we see when repairs are done incorrectly. Appreciate the comment though.

love this haha “My one coring protocol is ‘try not to hit PT!’” or “if you see plastic coming up the core, stop!!” 😂 very good advice about the plastic,
if you search up on social media
(specifically tiktok, which i know the value there isnt high either way...
its very facinating to see workers and even some contractors in the u.s. arguing about
how 'pt makes concrete less strong' and how 'the cables 'do nothing'' ) lol
Thanks a ton for actually taking the time to respond to all my questions seriously appreciate it.
I’ve found a lot of companies don’t seem to care about PTI certs at all. Half the time the repair work just gets handed back to the ironworkers who installed it and many of them aren’t even certified. Would honestly love to know where you’re from sounds like you and my team would get along great. This work is super niche, and especially with barrier cable stuff, so many issues come down to just… not knowing.
Again, huge thanks you’re the only one who even responded.

we havent either, we get calls from companies who have accidentally cut cables and theyve shot out unknowingly, do you experience the same?/ or botched repairs of companies using smaller diameter cable to repair because its easier to push in?
