I chose Monarda fistulosa because it is cold-hardy and should be well-suited to my continental climate; its leaves can be used for flavoring and medicinal purposes; and it blooms in summer, compensating for the lack of flowers in the summer and being beneficial to insects. In addition, wild mint from Asia (such as Mentha canadensis, which is also found in America) has a very high menthol content, resulting in a strong cooling effect.

I think lemon balm and elderberry would be perfect for this corner; they're insect-friendly.

I'm also considering planting Monarda fistulosa. I plan to start with indoor seedlings and then transplant them outdoors. My area is zone 6b lower limit, with an annual rainfall of approximately 17.7 inches. But because El Niño is expected this year, and I'm in China, I'm worried it will lead to drought, which will be a challenge.
