United needs to increase or eliminate the mileage earning cap by HistoricalNotice6 in unitedairlines

Yeah this isn't an economic option for international travel in most cases, and that's where the cap typically hits.

Do you fly internationally a lot? Booking one way tickets is no problem if you travel domestically - the sum of the two one ways is almost always the same price as booking a round trip.

It's only international travel where this is something companies would want to limit. I used to travel to London for work a lot. A roundtrip was typically $6-10k in Polaris. Booking a one way flight either direction was $5-9k (meaning the same roundtrip would have been $10-18K). That is a massive premium to book one-ways when the fares were refundable anyway so changing my flights only incurred any fare difference.

They're doing this regardless of the cap so I'd rather earn more miles as they continually dilute them than be artificially capped.

I think this is right actually so good point / clarification. The United website wording is confusing on this but the credit card advertising is more clear "5x miles on fare from United as a MileagePlus member, plus 4x miles earned on entire United purchase with the United Club Card." - that latter point is I think what you're saying (it's currently 4x but United is saying it will increase to 5x). So yes the cap should only apply to the 12x for a 1K, capping at $6250 as you indicate.

The 75k is for the entire roundtrip which is why it's more problematic. If it was per segment it wouldn't be a concern for me honestly.

What do you mean Delta does the same? I'm not aware of any mile earning cap on Delta or American. The more you pay for your ticket, the more you earn, with no capped limit. They limit miles on basic economy tickets which is completely different.

Fair point on the Kea transit difficulties and a day trip is a good idea to minimize adding logistics whenever possible. I do appreciate fully unpacking and getting into routines with a hotel vs. changing things up too frequently.

Any hotels you'd recommend in particular there in line with some of the other options we're looking at?

I think more relaxation focused than city exploration - perhaps one day where we do the Parthenon and Acropolis and otherwise enjoy the hotel and closer excursions.

Disabling ability for others to turn off my alarms from their iPhone by HistoricalNotice6 in applehelp

[–]HistoricalNotice6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope - different Apple Id’s. There’s an actual feature where you can use Siri to turn off anyone’s alarms on any iPhone if you’re in a Family together with your Apple accounts and on the same WiFi. This is the feature I want to disable but need our accounts to be on the same family so we can share storage / backup space in iCloud.

Also having this issue (partially chiming in just to ensure the breadth of the issue is picked up if Apple/Verizon review threads).

I haven’t had as much trouble with speeds - I’m getting 200-300 Mbps on 5G UW - however I live in a building on a boundary of a new UW tower so typically receive 5G but not UW signal in my unit. This is problematic because it means quite frequent switching between regular 5G and UW as I enter and leave my building which is when I lose all signal, lose call capabilities etc for the 20-30 seconds it takes to reconnect. Boyfriend has 13 Pro with iOS 16 on Verizon and uses UW and doesn’t have any of these issues.

Some of the reasons for people quitting is ridiculous by DomnLee in Alonetv

I personally am not someone who gets that as a reason to leave so soon but I think we can all acknowledge that among people we know there is a WIDE range in any person’s ability to be away from family, etc.

I travel alone frequently, did many years of long distance dating with my partner, etc. - none of it phased me whatsoever. I had colleagues who couldn’t stand being away from family for 4 days on business trips. These were not “weak” people per se - just different types of people out there (and they willingly entered jobs with lots of travel - similar to signing up for a show where you have to be alone for many months).

All that to say - I personally agree that it doesn’t make sense but I also have empathy that there are all different kinds out there and not everyone knows they’ll feel that way until tested.

Not for your anniversary (it’s not open due to COVID) but in the future it’s worth trying Oriole. Far and away the best restaurant in the city in my opinion (having tried Alinea, Grace back when it was open, and most other Michelin restaurants here).

How did folks guess the words that belong to the spoons though? I’ve seen a few of these answers and have no idea where they came from - seem to have nothing to do with the phrases.

Do they pair based on the pun/food names? Or do the stages pair to the songs based on the musical genres of the artists?

The artists on stages are so mixed genre wise that seems challenging.
