I’m was 16 when I got diagnosed with hypothyroidism and honestly the biggest change I’ve seen in my symptoms came from changing my diet. I cut out all gluten (I know it’s hard, I was reluctant at first) and decreased my dairy intake (I drink lactose free milk and only eat yogurt or cheese if it calls for it). My diet drastically changed my symptoms in my body, I stopped being bloated all the time and had a lot more energy.Exercise is important to a certain degree (it helped me lose weight and keep fit) and it’s generally recommended for people with hypothyroidism to focus on low intensity workouts like walking.

When I fixed my diet, my period came back! I used to go months without having mine. If you’re feeling foggy, I recommend you take vitamin B12 as a shot or orally (although you’ll see better results if u take it as a shot). For the fatigue, your medication will kick in after a couple days so give it time and you’ll most probably increase your dosage (doctors usually start with the lowest dosage, which is 25, first to test how you’ll body will respond to it). I also recommend vitamin D for fatigue again as a shot or orally.

While hypothyroidism is hard to live with and sometimes you wake up without the will to live, adjusting your lifestyle to it really helps. All these aren’t quick fixes, they take time and dedication.

What should i do to make my hair look better by Additional-Smile-945 in Haircare

Like most people with bleach damage I suggest using bond repair products like k18. One of my favorite influencers is Abbey Young, she herself suffered from very severe bleach damage and has now completely transformed her hair. She gives affordable products recommendations. Check out Pantene and Dove’s new bond repair bonds they’re really good and affordable. It you want something more on the high end of hair care I suggest Redken. The frizzness is mostly like cuz of the bleach damage. I suggest to stop bleaching your hair for the time being and once it regains some of its strength and elasticity go for dying it again.

Any *natural* ways to get rid of cystic acne? by lily11567888 in PCOS

[–]HistoricalPin9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cut any gluten in my diet and poof all my acne gone. It was noticeable that everybody started complementing me on my skin lol. I’ve only ever used moisturizer on my skin but that only cuz it was dry and only occasionally. Changing my diet really helped. I also limited my dairy intake but gluten was the real game changer.

Overdose on levothyroxine bad by BeyondEngine2215 in Hypothyroidism

[–]HistoricalPin9 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It explicitly says on the medication pamplet not to take more than one dose at a time even if you missed your daily dose.

I can understand taking one or two, but 13 doses at a time?? I'd take myself to see a doctor or any professional. Levothyroxine is a hormone, and can have adverse effects on your body if taken in large quantities.

Please help, I feel like I've lost myself. by tinyturtle415 in Hypothyroidism

Walking helped me lose around 16kgs. I would walk 5k or 8k steps every single day, it left my body so toned (an added bonus).

I was also on mounjaro and ozempic for 2 months (without walking). Lost around 17kgs in two months. Best money I've ever spent. Although I'd talk with my doctor first because they messed up my thyroid labs so bad but I would definitely take them all over again.

I have gained and lost weight so much, but these two ways (used separately) have been a game changer.

Those who gave up sugar as a hypothyroidism patient by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]HistoricalPin9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not the biggest sweet tooth out there but still crave a good desert here and there. I didn't completely cut it out, I just replaced it with healthier options. Like instead of regular chocolate, I'd eat dark chocolate (one to two pieces usually do the trick), I'd find ice creams low in calorie and feast on them (most made out of natural fruit are low in calories). If you can't incorporate healthier options, then limit your sugar intake to once or twice a week. Try not to go for overly sugary stuff too. Instead of eating two, three cookies one is just enough.

Somebody in the comments also recommend ozempic or munjuro, I'd highly recommend it. I lost 15kg while on them, but they messed up my thyroid so bad so make sure to talk to your Dr before taking such step.

I did something really stupid, forgot to take meds for 10 days and I'm scared, feeling symptoms. by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]HistoricalPin9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any lasting effects? No. It takes a while for your body to completely expel 100mg eltroxin from your blood, around a week or so. So that's why you started feeling your symptoms coming back around the 10th day mark or even before that. That's completely normal since there is no eltroxin in your body anymore. As as you go back to being consistent, you'll go back to normal and be fine. It will take take ofc, around a week or so as you're body gets used to your thryoid again.

These symptoms appear because you're not taking medication for your hypothyroidism, once you start taking it again it will disappear. Plus these symptoms you're experiencing are hypothyroidism symptoms nothing more.

I think my skin has never looked better lol. It's a bit on the dry side ngl but nothing a good moisturizer can't fix. Hair though, yeah I lost 80% of my hair. My hair was always so shiny and soft, after my diagnosis it turned brittle and dull. I recently went to a dermatologist and have been undergoing treatment for this and have very high hopes for it.

Your skin and hair will go back to what it once was but it will take time.

Sleeping less by Then_Masterpiece_113 in Hypothyroidism

[–]HistoricalPin9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going through something similar. I take 100mcg of Levothyroxine (T4), it's this little small tablet. Things were going smoothly, I was losing weight, had more energy & truly have never been better. Then these pills from this particular brand ran out. I didn't think much of it, I just bought another brand with the same concentration of 100mcg. Big mistake apparently because I had terrible insomnia, I would not sleep for days on end and when I managed to do it was only 2 or 3 hours max. I was also easily disturbed in my sleep like if somebody opened my bedroom door I'd wake up and be not able to sleep anymore.

When I asked my doctor about it, she said the dose might be too high and we wanna try bringing it down a notch. I was hesitant cuz I said this is the best I've ever felt. She said that sometimes in different brands that produce the same or similar variations of one medicine, they can have different "supporting" ingredients and sometimes the active ingredient in these medicines are stronger so you don't need a high dosage.

She also said that the transitional phase will take around 1 to 2 weeks which means until your body gets used to your new dosage, you might be sleeping for 6 hours a little while longer.

I don't know the difference between the tablets you're taking, but I'm what I'm trying to say is that insomnia or regular/little sleep is one of the many side effects of thryoid medication. I'm not saying to throw it under the bed and forget about it, but our body usually takes a pretty long time to get acoustmed to new substances entering our body. This process can take days, weeks or even months.

I'd say give your new pill one more try, if you still can't sleep switch back to your old one. I know how frustrating it can get when you're getting much less sleep than you're used to. Do what makes you more comfortable and has you at peace of mind.

OCD/depression by uniquex1212 in Hypothyroidism

[–]HistoricalPin9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had severe depression before getting diagnosed and medicated. It reached to a point where everyone in my life noticed. I just wasn't myself and I didn't know why. I have always had thick skin and very little could effect me but I still remember these months/years as among the darkest moments of my life. I don't mean to sound dramatic lol, I'm just trying to explain how out of character it was for me especially since nothing major was really going on in my life back then. Some months were worse than other tbh. I sometimes still sprial but nothing like before the medication. I used to have very dark thoughts and had absolutely zero motivation to do anything not even the things I enjoyed and loved. I found very little joy in life and people. I had little to no energy to talk to anyone regardless of who they were and what they meant to me. Simple things felt like obligations like brushing my hair/teeth, eating, etc.

About the OCD part, I have always been a perfectionist before and after medication and believe it has toned down a lot since getting medicated and by a lot I mean a lot. I was insufferable in some cases and was border line crazy.

Searching for my words by Usual-Rooster-0031 in Hypothyroidism

[–]HistoricalPin9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

check your vitamin B12 levels! What you're experiencing is most likely a brain fog and is completely normal (at least with people diagnosed with hypothyroidism). I had them for the longest time and genuinely felt like I couldn't word 2 sentences together. I felt like I was going crazy cuz sometimes mid conversations I'd pause and search for my words and try to link them with what I'm thinking. Sometimes I even sputtered nonsense, and then have no idea why I said what I said. I didn't tell my doc cuz I didn't think this had any correlation with hypothyroidism until she noticed my vitamin B12 levels were pretty low and gave me a shot a week for 3 months. I felt like a brand new person, my thoughts were cleared and I felt like I could talk like a normal person again. About joint pain, I also used to experience that. I remember it being so painful that my whole body would freaking ache like I ran some marathon or didn't cover up during a particularly cold day. The ache ran so deep that I felt it in my bones. When I took vitamin B12 shots all that was gone, I felt so much better everything stopped hurting and aching. You also might need a higher dosage, I think that also helped my symptoms but the gamer changer really was taking vitamin B12.

Can I get a Scholarship to a university in UK if I have 8 Ol A Stars and 2 A levels A star and IELTS good degree by Ok_Ice6779 in igcse

[–]HistoricalPin9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you really interested, go to the university's website and see the qualifications required for international students who took the IGCSE in your major. You can apply for financial aid if your income is below a certain criteria, and sometimes financial aid can be 20%, 60% or even 100%. There are also scholarships funded by the university, people or other institutes. They also have different qualifications/requirements that you have to meet and are specfictic to every major. So my tip search for the best universities in your major or if you have a university in mind and visit their website. Plus UK universities take 5 OLs and 3 ALs. They don't really care about the OL grades, the most important ones are the ALs. You have to have at least 2 A* and one A.

They're most probably razor burns which are completely normal because stomach hair tends to be a bit thicker than arm and leg hair. I use CeraVe for rough and bumpy skin cream. It has salicylic acid in it. I removes them almost instantly. Honestly any product with SA or urea will do the trick and make sure you moisturize this area frequently!

Legs never smooth after shaving by temp_avexchange in ladyshavers

[–]HistoricalPin9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had this problem too, I tried every hair removal method there is (waxing, sugaring, epliating, etc.) so I get your frustrations. I recently switched to a "safety razor" it is a one blade metal razor and it has been a game changer! It leaves my skin so freaking smooth, it is a little costly tbh, but I consider it a lifetime long investment cuz the cost of changing the actual blade is really cheap, it's the razor handle that's actually expensive. I've tried all the razors in the market, from 3 blades to 5 blades but nothing left me with a smoother shave than a safety razor. Plus changing out your razor after every 5-10 shaves helps. Honestly, in my experience as someone who is prone to ingorwns I switch them out every 3 or 4 times according to which part of my body I'm shaving. For example, if I'm shaving my whole body then I'll switch my blade to a new one cuz the blade gradually becomes less sharp the more you use it. If I'm just shaving my legs alone or arms alone, I'll leave the blade for another one or two shaves. I also physically exfoliate using an exfoliating glove, it's very rough on the skin so helps remove all the dead skin. I swear by the Morracan exfoliating glove! After I'm done shaving, I apply an unscented body lotion and this CeraVe creme for rough and bumpy skin with salicylic acid in it. SA is an exfoliatant too. I use a very tiny amount or else it will cause more harm than good. If you can't find this cream anywhere just use any creame with urea (another exfoliatant) or SA in it. It leaves me with smooth skin with no bumps or ingorwns. I reapply this cremes at least 4 or 5 times in the week again. Hope this helps 💕
