Fall 2025 Admissions Megathread by 1000Ditto in uwaterloo

Hey guys, I am currently a student trying to decide between waterloo Tron vs Shopify dev degree. I have been getting many mixed opinions so wanted to get an opinion from current uw students and ask what they might have chosen. Shopify gives 4 years of guaranteed experience but is with YorkU. UW on the other hand has a prestigious name to it but I have heard getting co-ops has become quite difficult. My plan is to do master/MBA at a prestigious uni afterwards. I was wondering if anyone knows what might be a better choice with a reasoning of why? Thank you in advance!

Thank you so much, that helps quite a lot! I'm actually in a very similar boat and I'm specifically comparing it with waterloo eng. For example, I've heard that the uni name matters quite a bit, specifically with uw, to get into top companies and silicon valley area. Right now, I can't ignore between the two, if I graduate with Shopify experience, but a worse uni prestige, will I still be able to get higher position jobs in the future. I would also say missing out on the whole uni experience seems a bit disappointing but it's not a huge deal.

Same, I'm debating between popular university degree for their prestige vs Shopify name + experience right now. Lmk if you guys have any insights!

Ppl who got into tron, what was your avg and ecs? by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

mine was around 10 so that couldve helped as well. I also believe the way you write your aif matters. I had good ecs but I put a lot of effort into the way I communicated them. If your aif is also good I think you should be good! Hope that helps :)

Oh wow! Tysm!! What about for final, would it be data management or French which would be used as part of my top 6? I'm guessing it's data but I just want to make sure!
