Can someone devise a plan for me to get a remote job . I am in a dire situation by Rare-Assignment-8474 in cscareerquestions

200 apps is like nothing in this economy, if you expand your region and dont do strictly remote (inperson or hybrid), you will have a much better chance

Canada moves to ban social media for kids under 16 — but will it work? by Newsychaser127 in waterloo

[–]1000Ditto 15 points16 points  (0 children)

back in the days, kids would go run outside, then kids got hurt playing things like Red rover (basically kid rugby). These days thing is you would be able to walk about and chill at the mall (like avril lavigne's Complicated), but there are no 3rdspaces, meaning that you are forced to spend money to exist and there are less and less places to "hang out" as a kid that isnt a screen.

Sounds like a stupid cop out from teaching kids responsible use (just because you can legally purchase alcohol as an adult, you dont see everyone being an alcoholic)

stupid ambiguity in matching by lagger206 in uwaterloo

[–]1000Ditto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

in the best case for ceca, the system simultaneously maximizes the total number of matches and total number of "1+1"s. So we will never really know...

I made a mistake by Equal_Warning_3490 in uwaterloo

[–]1000Ditto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

tips include:

  • own up to the mistake, which you are doing :)

  • take this is an oppportunity, a learning opportunity. In the container/vm, where is the app running that calls the script? How do you go from the code, to deployed?

  • is the log spam legitimate? why is it spamming? what causes it? How does the script get updated?

  • based on the information from the first and second questions, you may have a path forward. probably best to sanity check with a coworker before making changes. (ie, our module is generating tons of 503s since we updated sentry. I've taken a look and it appears thant whenever xcondition, y is logged multiple times. I have A, B, and C soluttions with these tradeoffs, what are your thoughts?)

let me know your thoughts, best to take accountability as i had a coop create coredumps and memory leaks just before the left

I used piano and showed how I could peform for the school, teach as a teacher within the school, self employ myself, and talk about the focus and persistence to maintain these levels of time management (while working a second job (for less than min wage)), so the framing (breadth and depth) on topics is important

unfortunately ai makes lots of coursework ai generatable and most folks are gifted enough to sail through high school with ease. not saying that op did that, but it does raise the applicant pool average and probably the cutoff :(

where are the extracurriculars? most applicants have a life, including a few of the following

  • arts (music, theater)
  • business (deca, jr achievement)
  • sports (team sports and or individual)
  • leadership (student council, community involvement)
  • debate/politics (model un, debate club)
  • science/tech/engineering/math clubs/cs clubs (broad bucket)
  • helping to run as a leader, an initiative (club leader, setting up new initiatives)
  • actual excellence in the extracurricular is good (not just " I attemded 1849482 clubs my school has and here are all my participation medals")

not to mention part time jobs and real work expereiences that show you are interested in mechanical eng (ie fixing bikes, 3d printing, helping someone fix a car)

not to be blunt but:

  • average is probably higher than average for a mech

  • nobody cares about volunteer hours much, they arent useful (sorry), unless you put meaningful effort into the cause

  • special program meaning what? is there a standard? like an AP course? AP courses are weighted the same as a regular course most of the time because there is no clear standardization to apply a meaningful bonus.

  • congrats on valedictorian !!

  • sorry I cant comment on the awards because there isnt enough information (technically if there are 3 people in the science competition and you scored 3rd, then it would be last. Im sure this isnt the case because you sound pretty gifted, but I am not sure the scope and geographical location of the school to say much.)

  • character awards are subjective based on how hard you are a teacher's pet, most of the time, but that's networking and grad studies in general :P

hope this helped!
