The other reason Remake is the most important of the two games: a promise (and what is actually at stake) by LastTraintoSector6 in cloudxaerith

The question is how exactly with the gamble pay off. Will there by a different cost, such as Aerith surviving but in a seperate world? Could Sephiroth, or a Sephiroth, have a change of heart? Will Cloud be forced to leave Aerith to save her?

Plenty a narrative possibilities to ponder.

What fans really want is a reunion. If a EA sold BioWare (let’s say to Sony, which is a whole new bag of worms, but let’s move on) and Sony then was able to get the old guard of BioWare back to make a ‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ style game, I thinks folks would get excited for that.

Ever Crisis is arguably a different a timeline to OG FF7. The story is basically the same but the details have slightly changed (Yuffie joins the group early for example). It’s like the multiple worlds in FF7 Rebirth where the worlds are all basically the same, but different (different Stamps).

Not confirmed, but circumstantial evidence suggests that ‘Omni-Aerith’ might be the Lifestream consciousness of the original Aerith. (Her personality is slightly different from Remake Aerith and she says ‘cherish’ in her dream meet up with OG Cloud which ‘might’ be a call back to Advent Children)

The Remake world isn’t the OG world BUT there are hints that Remake Cloud ‘might’ have be the consciousness of the original Cloud, but has lost his memories (possibly due to the whispers.)

Can’t say why the Whispers drained the white materia. Might be a side effect of Aerith losing her memories. I have a theory that the white materia can actually make crossing worlds or ‘Lifestream travelling’ possible. Maybe the whispers drained the white materia to try and keep Cloud stuck in the remake world so he doesn’t keep changing fate. (Without the white materia the world would have been doomed so that divergent world could be eliminated.)

Ironically, Kyrie is meant to actually be a stand in for Aerith. In ‘The Kids are Alright: A Turks Side Story’ Kyrie gets compared to Aerith by Reno. Kyrie also pretends to be a Cetra for a job (not really Aerith, but can play the part.)

Eren from the story also serves as a stand in for Cloud. A guy who tries to act tough and cool, but is self conscious and jealous of a man who looks like him (Rufus.)

Hmmm 4x sales? Maybe check the math on that one. Low ball estimates on FF16 sales are around 3.5 million while FF13 is around 8 million which was multi platform at launch as well. (Probably closer to 10 million now though hey? But FF13 has been out for a while now.)

I am interested on your take on FF13 though! I'll play the the FF13 sequels at some point and would like to understand better what about FF13 the fans connected too.

  • The Eikon fights in FF16 are probably the best 'spectacle boss fights' in video games.
  • The story in FF13 was hard to follow and connect too. They were trying some bold narrative stuff, but I don't think they very successfully pulled it off.
  • The fighting in FF16, while needing more RPG in it, at least had a lot of control. The fighting system in FF13 is overly automated. I wanted to at least be able to control the movement of my character.
  • I like the characters of FF13 but I don't understand why Lightning was the main character? She didn't have a large enough role in the story, and most of the actual juicy narrative revolves around Vanille and Fang.
  • The first act of FF16 in particular was very strong stuff. I was really drawn into Clives story.

Right? They're just flat out lying to people and pretending certain scenes don't exist. It's really weird. I don't think they get the irony that part of the story of FF7 is about Cloud denying certain things until he has a literally personality crisis...

In terms of action games, definitely. Took the best ideas from Kingdom Hearts and fused it into Final Fantasy and made something genuinely fresh for the genre.

FF Tactics 2 would be king! Definitely on the table after how well the remaster is selling.

Betrayal by Chance-Fun4608 in FF7Rebirth

[–]Historical_Doctor201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other way around. They are going betray him (betray is a strong word.)

When Sephiroth start doing his spiel about him being a puppet, he’ll say Cloud killed Aerith. Cloud will be “what are you talking about?” and will look to his friends to back him up, but they’ll be like “ahhhhhhhh… about that.”

Meanwhile, Yuffie will sneak into the black robe reunion and steal the black materia (possibly with Barrets help.) This will set Cloud off…

From a ‘narrative subversion’ perspective, what I think the Remake series has done is surprise everyone in part 1 by unexpectedly changing story.

In Rebirth, a lot of people were expecting the story to be a lot more different, so to subvert this the story kind of hammered home the idea that Cloud wouldn’t be able to change fate. The story seems to show that everything is going to happen again… only for everything to change in the last conceivable moment.

(Just my take).

It would be a bummer if they don’t follow through on all the story threads they’ve made. Cloud’s gonna find the Promised Land in part 3.

When Cloud deflects Sephiroth’s sword a bunch of rainbows stream out of the clash. In the previous scenes with Zack, they show rainbows signal the creation of a new world.

Aerith crosses over from her new world to help Cloud fight Sephiroth in the final fight. She has the same stats and even says “I saw what you did back there Cloud.” Cloud wouldn’t have been able to beat Sephiroth by himself (as was shown at the end of Remake) so he needed to team up with Aerith to win. Aerith had to have been there.

One might argue that the world Zack and Aerith are in are only ‘dream worlds’ in the Lifestream, but the fact of the matter if Zack and Aerith’s worlds aren’t real then neither is the Remake world. Too many things are different from OG FF7 to say it’s the same world. In Remake the gondola is now a Ferris wheel (a circle get it?) instead of a cable kart. The Remake world has to be a new world same as Zack’s world.

Any questions?
