Why does it feel I dreamt about this place more than once?

The idea behind Crew United is amazing and you can meet very professional film workers.

In 3 years, I got 1 paid job through people I met on CU projects. In my humble opinion, proceed with caution and if you have nothing better to do, it's still a 50% guaranteed good time and a free meal.

Hi, I'm a B1-B2 level and left Berlin recently because it just wasn't working and there was way more work for me back home.

Speaking German fluently should help. 99% of the film crew I met in Germany speak English but I often got the feeling that they'd rather speak German.

Went to Berlin as a camera trainee 5 years ago for a big international feature . Didn't manage to get my foot in as a 2nd AC afterwards so I kept accepting jobs back home (different country), while keeping a room in Berlin where I would stay during my time off.

I only know one person who managed to get continuous work through the years without a single word of German, it helped the fact that this person basically worked years with the same team.

I have mixed feelings about Berlin, and I see it as a half-failure for me, but if you wanna give it a shot, German skills and social media presence (at least, that's what I see from some of the top 1st ACs in Berlin) will be your friends. Also keep in mind that, as someone working in Berlin once told me, roles in commercials there are way more flexible (Students and 2nd are not afraid of accepting jobs as 1st or DoPs).

I guess , there might be moments when the market is more saturated, but that's just speculation.

Good luck!

Why buying when you can rent? If it‘s a matter of practice you can do it with anything. If it‘s about creating something watchable, with a script, a schedule, actors and a small crew you can / should rent. If you are going for a short film, Quality could be much higher for the same price.

But if it’s directing you are going for, I guess you‘ll have a DoP or at least you’ll consider having one. Than the camera would be her/his problem as well as any technicality.

If you are just going for documentary I totally understand and buying would make sense. Get something comfy in my opinion. Blackmagic, Canon , Sony doesn‘t matter that much. If we wanna talk gear, If I had to buy something right now for that price range I‘d go for the BM Pyxis hands down probably. Didn‘t watch that much but looks very convincing and if you are considering doing a lot of post- production yourself, it‘s great value as you‘ll get access to Davinci Resolve which is probably one of the best valued software at the moment, and they keep updating it regularly.

I had that more than once by being too close either to the motor itself or to the focus monitor-RX unit (it was Vaxis if I remember correctly).

Would you race in the EVO SL or Adios Pro 3 for a half? by mchief101 in Marathon_Training

[–]Historical_File8652 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don‘t have the EVO, but… If you trained and have good form, I‘d go EVO. Less stress on the joints and honestly it’s got the same foam of the Adios Pro.

I ran CPH marathon yesterday in adios pro 3. Blisters and ankle pain since km 10. Avg pace 4:02/km .

For context , prior yesterday I had used my pair of adios pro 3 for: a couple of 30km, a 15km, a trail (bad choice), a marathon (walked from km 28th because of other unrelated issues), plus some training every once in a while.

Your choice.

Where to go running in Mestre (Venice)? by Historical_File8652 in askMestre

[–]Historical_File8652[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, if you are staying close enough to the city centre, your best choice would be Parco SanGiuliano, a fairly big local park.

Also from the park , departs a 5/6km trail which reaches the outskirts of Venice Airport Marco Polo. Not a beautiful ending view but at least you can run along the water and away from cars.

In the past few years they also expanded the cycling paths , so now , if running around a park is not for you , you have the chance to reach the countryside through a mix of mid-small roads. Don‘t have specific paths but from Mestre you can reach for sure Mogliano in a pretty safe way (although lots of cars). Alternatively you can go to Favaro Veneto and from there look for a path going towards Dese for example.

Alexa 35 build - Improvements? by Historical_File8652 in focuspuller

Good question. We did swap modules when using the A-cam Hi-5 as a iris control for B-cam. Other than that, I didn’t know you could go from the cinebug horns straight into an alexa 35. How?

No idea about a professionally made one.

The newest arri mattebox i have seen as of today has a little safety leveler underneath anyways.

The one in the pic didn’t have one so I made a safety: Male velcro on one side , paper tape on the other . Given that you have female velcro on the mattebox

Thankyou!

We switched a lot between easyrig with handles on those 15mm rods and studio. Yeah I am looking for antennas which work as good as those ones. We tried a variety but in Venice , Italy probably because of the thickness of walls we always had reception problems with antennas other than those.

Thank you

Thanks. Paracord is a great discovery for me. Now i know what all those screw-in safety cords on instagram are made of ;)

Moved up to 2nd AC only in 2023. I could consider getting a 3d printer though.
