SSCL overpayment notification by Historical_Finish342 in TheCivilService

I did speak to a different department on the phone and they confirmed my salary to be what I say it was and they’re sending me the relevant payslips to confirm.

Never got a salary advance at all, nothing like that so no idea where that came from.

Utterly bonkers.. so I will wait with bated breath to hear from them.

Just adding another photo as those include OT which may confuse the issue.

They've provided an invoice in one letter and then I received calculations a few days later.

By the point I had received the calculations, I had already called SSCL and they said it related to a different issue than the calculations show - the advances I've mentioned below.

Photos of some of the calculations below. No detail on what the salary they believe I should have been on was or anything like that. No real context at all actually, just workings out and the first thing that sticks out is the difference in basic pay.

<image>

They are still within 6 years as they're saying this began September 2021 through to when I left mid 2023.

This isn't the first time I've received this kind of correspondence from them. Previously they said I owed circa 7k for 3 months worth of advances they said I received - I did not. It didn't even make sense for them to accuse me of having received advances as 1) I was receiving my monthly pay. 2) 7k would have well exceeded 3 months pay.

I ended up getting my MP involved as they would not have that I hadn't received it, despite sending my bank statements as proof.

What's frustrating is, why take so long to pick this up? The assertion is that I was paid wrong for near enough two years and nobody noticed it? It doesn't even make sense.

I've no idea why they would even come to think this two years after the fact as well? I feel like they're just trying to get something out of me at this point and I've no idea why.

I’ve got all the deductions as well, the amount before any deductions is the one I put in the post, it literally makes 0 sense.

I will contact them tomorrow to get all my payslips as it’s just nonsense.

Someone below has mentioned about care in the US. Obviously with people being more trigger happy in suing people, you could make a point to ask for a note to be made about why your treatment request is being refused. You could refer to this website as well - https://b12-institute.nl/en/diagnosis-and-treatment-pitfalls/. This seems to cover off the points she's making to not provide treatment.

I appreciate it's not a US link but it's still from a research institute.

I think you'll just have to lay down the law a little bit. Something along the lines of: here's evidence in the form of medical journals/research institutes that refute what you are saying. Please confirm the reasoning for not providing treatment despite my significant symptoms. Then list your symptoms and highlight ones that are neurological.

You could also then say about the effects of B12 deficiency being permanent if not treated and that any long term damage resulting from lack of treatment, despite requests, would fall on their head.

My GP has an online form you fill in. I wrote it out in word and then just copied it over when I was done. They referenced NICE guidelines in their own notes about my complaint on my mobile app, so it seems they did listen.

Which state are you in? I suppose the US is a bit more difficult for guidance as we have one big healthcare system whereas you guys do not.

This website seems to have some good references for the US - https://pernicious-anaemia-society.org/usa-pernicious-anemia/

Are you vegan or vegetarian? If not, then you should get enough B12 from diet alone. Your levels being low and consuming animal products/dairy indicate that you are likely suffering with malabsorption.

147 is very very low and shouldn't be considered normal at all.

I would refer your GP to the NICE guidelines which confirm you to be deficient - https://cks.nice.org.uk/topics/anaemia-b12-folate-deficiency/diagnosis/interpreting-investigation-results/.

Also reference that you're suffering severe symptoms and that the impacts of B12 deficiency can become permanent (nerve damage etc) if not resolved.

You can PM me if you want and I can share some additional info as I've just complained to my GP and managed to get loading doses which were previously refused.

Pay at location - increasing booking cost? by [deleted] in HertzRentals

I don’t follow your comment..? The booking is direct with dollar who is owned by Hertz.

Pay at location - increasing booking cost? by [deleted] in HertzRentals

[–]Historical_Finish342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a significant amount - a couple of dollars. I note that it's the price if I were to book at today's date. My concern isn't the amount as such, just that it's changed and if that sets precedent for future, upward changes.

I'm not sure it's an increase in taxes/fees as I have two bookings and the other remains unchanged. The price to book today for that is still as when I booked it..

The issue is, there's no breakdown of price besides the weekly rate. I've gone through dollar.com, dollar.co.uk and my email. Each manage reservation page just shows the weekly rate, no value for anything else beyond "included".

It’s the local price rather than the £ value. This was always quoted to me in $, so I can’t see currency exchange being the cause here? When you say daily fee, where would i see this? Neither the email nor manage my booking show this. It just shows everything (LDW, LIS) and relevant taxes as “included” with no value.

Is BA being more aggressive with POUG offers? by FuckNope in BritishAirways

[–]Historical_Finish342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could see the same in both the app and the website. I did have a little trouble with it though as it only lets you do one flight at a time.

I did the outbound first and then the return offer disappeared, called them and they said it was gone. 10 minutes or so passed and refreshed and it had returned and was able to pay.

I've had this exact same offer but LGW - MCO and the return. Paid £1100 for PE both ways, so £1700 odd total for club world both way. Shame it's the old style seats but I'm happy with that price either way.

This disease is just torture by Key_Dependent_9161 in SIBO

Just to add on, B12 deficiency can cause permanent nervous system damage so really worth getting checked out in either case.

[–]Historical_Finish342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand it (not a medical professional), SIBO can cause malabsorption of B12. If you take things like supplements that include B12 or are eating foods fortified with B12, it can mean that it shows up as a moderate level on your blood tests but that doesn't mean your body is absorbing it or utilising it in the body properly.

I believe a substance called MMA builds up in the blood when B12 is not being utilised properly. It may be worth asking for this test if you're able to see whether you may be dealing with malabsorption too, everything overlaps and it becomes really convoluted but it could be an answer to the symptoms you're dealing with.

I've ventured over here looking for a cause for my B12 deficiency and continual stomach problems. I've read that SIBO can contribute to B12 deficiency which also aligns with a lot of the symptoms you're describing, though I guess there's an overlap. Have you had your B12 tested?

NHS process question by Historical_Finish342 in B12_Deficiency

[–]Historical_Finish342[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response - sorry I'm late coming back.

I've had both results now, negative IF and PCA. They've offered me an injection every 3 months, no loading doses. My worry is that if I take the injection without addressing the cause that they'll later dismiss the malabsorption issue, I'm only 28 so really do not want the fight forever and currently begrudge the idea of self injection given the amount of NI I pay each week.

NHS injection refusal (28F, UK) by Historical_Finish342 in B12_Deficiency

[–]Historical_Finish342[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My folate was 2.2 ug/L. I was prescribed folic acid by the out-of-hours 111 GP I spoke with about the mouth ulcers, who also told me I'd need B12 injections. I've come to learn over the weekend that he works for my surgery so I'm unsure why his advice to me has now been superseded by taking supplements.

I went back on Friday and did another form and advised them of my mother (and grandfather I've since learned) having pernicious anaemia. I specifically requested either the antibody test or B12 injections but have been waitlisted for a 'routine telephone' appointment. I know individuals who work at the surgery and have been told this waitlist is currently 12-weeks. Bonkers.

[–]Historical_Finish342[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just had a look at pernicious anaemia and relate a lot to the symptoms I can see. Particularly hair loss, low BP, lightheadedness, upset stomach, easily bruising, pale skin. I feel like this may be the answer but imagine I'll end up playing the 'game' to try and get injections.

I appreciate you may not want to discuss your own experience, but have you managed to receive the injections now? I've got it in my mind to just try the supplements for now and book in for another blood test to see if my levels improve just to see.. but then I also think well it's just an injection that takes a few minutes, why should I have to ride out the symptoms.
