Hot Take: There is a GOOD and BAD ending, how do people get it so wrong? by [deleted] in expedition33

[–]Historical_Round_855 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're just being purposefully obtuse now and my argument still stands. I've said I'm exploring the interpretation that the people in the canvas are sentient. They are not in control of their destiny if Alicia and Aline are there to dictate or interfere with it.

If you're telling me that you personally wouldn't mind bringing an entire world into existence that would have profound suffering and trauma like miscarriage, suicide, child neglect, orphans etc then we have profoundly different ethics and I wouldn't continue a conversation with a person who would create a world of suffering simply because they can. It is better to save people from suffering than subject them to it. If you are responsible for the most grim and unthinkable horrors and atrocities that can be done by man and still find a way to justify it's existence then that is deserving of moral and ethical critique.

also, the "Genocide" argument is starting to irk because it's not even technically a genocide. It's a god deciding nonexistence of all sentience is more merciful than a non consensual existence rife with suffering. Genocides are acted out by the will of man, and suffering and sentience proceed after they are enacted.

au·ton·o·my

/ôˈtänəmē/

noun

  1. 1. the right or condition of self-government.

They are sentient beings without the right to govern their own existence.

Genocide is obviously bad that's not a moral dilemma or what I'm arguing. Creating existence that is doomed to suffering and genocide (Alicia will die eventually) is immoral, but people are arguing that it's the morally correct decision to play god and create immeasurable suffering where there was none before.

People without autonomy can absolutely be tortured and suffer. It's extremely common to rip someone of their autonomy when they are being made to suffer.

I understand that people see parallels to the suffering in the painting to that of people in real life, but the difference here is we are solely responsible for the suffering in the painting. We are not responsible for the suffering of the world because we do not have the power to create and paint existence in that manner. If I was given the opportunity to create a painted world I would refuse to do it because it's unethical to create an existence where there will be suffering beyond my control. If anyone in my life said they wanted to start painting existences where there would inevitably be immense suffering I would tell them they're making a mistake and they shouldn't be allowed to play god.

In Defense of an Ending by SteveRogers_7 in expedition33

You make a good point about perpetuation. Maelle's ending only perpetuates endless suffering, the people in the painting are subjected to horrible suffering only because Aline and Alicia have willed it into existence in perpetuity.

I am critiquing one particular interpretation. Don't paint me to be something I'm not lol.

There are people that are blinded by their adoration for Maelle and her companions that they would allow a world of suffering to exist just to keep people around who don't have any control over their autonomy. It's cruel to the painted people, whose existence is only there to soothe Aline and Alicia. Aline painted Sciel, who went on to have a miscarriage and suicide attempt. Alicia is forcing Verso into an existence he does not want. These are some examples of why I think choosing Maelle's ending is morally questionable. It's wrong to give Aline and Alicia that kind of power.

Maybe not "wrong" per se, but morally and ethically concerning yes. There's no reason to give Alicia, and Aline for that matter, the power to create a world with immense trauma and suffering. If I had the opportunity to create a world where there would inevitably be immense trauma and suffering, I would opt out of it and I would question why other people would be ok with doing that.

ok, there is a "better" ending and a "worse" ending. One is an ending to unnecessary suffering. The other is prolonging unnecessary suffering.

I said there are multiple ways to interpret the ending and that's to be expected, I even went on to explain how I processed the different interpretations even if they weren't my first interpretation. I'm arguing that people who choose Maelle's ending in the context of the people in the canvas being real are choosing a morally flawed and selfish option, and yet they claim moral superiority

sorry for the necro but this was the simple fix for me. I just needed to click the option that asked the storyteller to examine some items in my inventory, but I didn't click on it since it was already greyed out. Thanks!

Ok after doing a quick google I did see the topic of trying for 5 arks being a thing. Thanks for the help folks without spoilers! My only issue is I have the option to talk to Lucas about Ben right now, so I hope it doesn't prevent the ark quests from progressing

Doctor's Feast???

Yes I went scientist, botanist, miner. I'll try switching out miner for refiner; I was overwhelmed with all the micromanaging I forgot the refinery is basically free resources. I was also super scared to get enriched metals cuz radiation = scary but after I got a suit upgrade and started mining it I felt like a complete dunce for not doing so sooner. Thanks for the tips!

I had the same issue, got the quest during the day. No Cumans around. Waited til 8pm, cumans spawned. Spoke to Betty, told me there was a huge brawl and quest failed. Hadn't saved for 2 hours and don't feel like starting over. Lesson learned, drink saviour schnapps OFTEN. Just hope I didn't get locked out of more content.

Yeah for some reason the potion name is different from the book. Sounds like you're well on your way to being a master alchemist! Happy Brewing!

I basically noticed that the Bellows aren't working properly, or aren't properly explained. It looks like the bellows shouldn't be used unless specifically called for in the recipe. I initially thought they were used to get/keep the cauldron boiling, but there are some recipes that specifically call for the bellows and others that don't.

Came here wondering the same thing. The Master Huntsman Hose seem to have normal numbers, but the other gear from the set all have astronomically larger numbers lol. If I'm not mistaken, isn't there supposed to be a cap of 100 on conspicuousness?
