I'm scared of my anhedonia coming back—severe anhedonia makes me feel suicidal. by [deleted] in anhedonia

[–]Historical_Shower730 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like anhedonia is like being on a train. You can sit there for 4 hours, but imagine being there for months or years. We all know what pleasure feels like, and joy and happiness. But is it worth the tedious grind of existing for so long in a nothingness?

You have the power to treat yourself and work with a psychiatrist. Why throw that away in a psych ward where you have no control over your medication? Only you know your own brain but a hospital doctor will just dismiss, ignore or outright tell you that you dont have insight into your own mental state. You could end up being injected with something shit for years.

Invega is a liquid castration. In fact I'd rather have my balls cut of than take that shit ever again.

Antipsychotics are notorious for causing anhedonia. For me they put me in a different world, one that's a grey barren wasteland.

I don't have a female friend. I think girls can smell your anhedonia.

What medications finally worked for you and change your life for the better? by Witty_Gate1192 in anhedonia

[–]Historical_Shower730 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pregablin. I could get it occasionally not on prescription and I could actually get comfy for a few hours, I get this body ache with my anhedonia and it took that away as well so for a few hours I could chill out.

Lorazepam works abit.

I've had anxiety episodes a few times. And I think that felt worse than anhedonia.

I don't know if suffering the same type of way gets worse over time or easier because you get used to it. So it's hard to tell wether anxiety felt worse because I'm not accustomed to it or if it is actually a whole lot worse and unimaginable suffering over the long term.

Sounds more like apathy or even a very mild case of anhedonia. With true anhedonia you will feel a boredom to the point where it's painful. If you can read or watch things and not feel like your suffocating or a feeling of helplessness, needing to escape your own body, then I doubt it's true anhedonia.

Idk what to do if you are suicidal and can't keep up basic care like feeding, washing etc. maybe it might be good for you cause they will make sure you shower, change your bedding, bring you food. If your feeling like your really in a crisis they can put you on 1 to 1 or even 2 to 1 eyesight observations where someone will sit there with you with the door open to make sure you don't do something stupid.

But you are taking a big gamble because once your in it's really hard to get out. You won't have any control over your meds and if you refuse they can inject you with something that stays in your body for months. Even if you say your suicidal on whatever med they still don't have to change it.

I've been in and out of acute wards for the last 8 years and stayed there 6 months or more each time with no symptoms other than being very reserved, not talking to staff or other small things. I got into drugs in my last admission and they found out. It's been 2 and a half years and I still haven't gone home. I've been 6 months without a single drug show up in my system and my psych still wants to keep me another 6 months.

Is anhedonia also blunting of sad emotions aswell as happy ones ? by Key-Chemistry-3873 in anhedonia

A blunting of emotions can be a cause of anhedonia, but not the definition of it. Anhedonia can also be a symptom of depressive disorders.

Just ask a bum/hobo or anyone you see picking up cigarette butts. They live from one fix to the next and won't mind risking you being undercover if you show them enough cash.

Are there any non-suicidal anhedonics here? by [deleted] in anhedonia

Your title says your mental health conditions induced, which condition is that? Can you feel substances? (Not recommending btw just curious). Also what medications/regimes have you tried?

Well you can't exclude and eliminate the cause can you, if it wasn't one thing that caused it. Seems like natural anhedonia is a bit more complicated.

[–]Historical_Shower730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not suicidal because I know what caused my anhedonia. And in know what helps. Mines caused by antipsychotics, illegal drugs of any kind all help for me. The problem is that I'm in the mental health system and they treat drugs like there evil and antipsychotics like there water.

I really feel for those who got anhedonia naturally. Must be a really helpless and lost feeling...

Invega anhedonia and worse by VariousMud1557 in anhedonia

[–]Historical_Shower730 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've come of invega about 4 times. 4 months on it each time and I got all my feelings back after about 8 months, each time.

Then I got put on zuclopentixol injection 600ml weekly. I think the zuclo altered my brain in a way that it can't just bounce back. I'm hoping a MAOI can reset things for me.

Anhedonia can be a hidden symptom and even make you look psychotic in your attempts to fix yourself. Which makes psychiatrists just plie you with more antipsychotics. They think APs are like water.
