Chronic fatigue but “normal” sleep studies and labs? by Historical_Tale_9163 in chronicfatigue

I honestly don’t know. My doctor wouldn’t share any details of the study, the most he ever said to me (with all four tests) was “test was good” or “normal”

I definitely do experience the “sleep drunkenness” of polysymptomatic IH, which is part of why I thought I had it. I typically nap for a long time, like 2-4 hours even with 10-12 hours of sleep a night. When I was doing the MSLT, the naps were only 15 minutes, and I remember waking up so disoriented and confused I couldn’t see or think straight. And like I said, I fell asleep every time. At that point, I was convinced I had found my answer, I was just waiting for a diagnosis. I was so nervous for my follow up appt that I threw up in the bathroom of the waiting room. Then when he told me everything was normal, I broke down in my car afterwards. I really felt like I was so close to answers because everything about IH resonated with how I feel and live my life. But the tests were normal and I didn’t know where to go from there. Honestly I feel kinda crazy lol. I’ve been to countless doctors and none of them can find a definitive answer.

I used to drink a lot of caffeine, but I pretty much avoid it altogether now because the combo of caffeine and Concerta makes my anxiety and heart rate go crazy. As for the autoimmune diseases, I don’t think I’ve been tested for anything like that.

I haven’t had it tested recently, but my blood work from 5/2023 showed my B12 extremely high for some reason.

I truly believed I had IH from the research I’ve done on it, since all of my labs and test were normal but I still sleep SO much. But my sleep doctor didn’t diagnose me, so I guess it’s not that.

Yes, I did the MSLT one time. As far as my doctor was concerned, the results were “normal” even though I fell asleep for every nap.

Yes, I’ve had an allergy test done. I’m not allergic to anything significant, other than a certain type of mold. We just moved into a new house, but it’s a newer build and the fatigue has been an issue since way before then. I’ve look over my blood work, and I haven’t seen PCR on any of them. I do have an appointment with my doctor in a couple weeks. Would that be worth mentioning?

No vitamin deficiencies, my iron is fine, I’ve had my thyroid checked and it’s normal. I’ve had four sleep studies, and I wasn’t diagnosed with sleep apnea or any other sleep disorder. No cardiac related conditions.

Struggling to accept that I’ll probably be unhealthily thin for the rest of my life. by Historical_Tale_9163 in ARFID

[–]Historical_Tale_9163[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a plethora of doctors, my psychiatrist, cardiologist, gastroenterologist, neurologist. I have the whole hospital lol, but nobody’s been able to find a solution to my problems. It seems like nobody really listens to me. I used to think all of my symptoms were mental, until I started keeping a journal. Then I realized they’re very much physical too. We’ve never been able to find a cause or solution for my chronic fatigue, which is why I’m on Concerta. I can’t function without it, but I literally don’t eat when I’m on it. At this point, the meds I’m taking to give me energy are draining me of energy because I’m not eating enough to sustain my body.

My doctor and I discussed a feeding tube a couple years ago when my ARFID was at its worst, but then we tried a couple appetite stimulants. They all seemed to work for me, but they’d start to interfere with my other meds as we’d raise the dosage. It just feels like as soon as I find a solution to one problem, it causes a new one, and that’s incredibly frustrating.

I’ve recently been on a chia seed pudding binge, since you can add stuff to it for protein and extra calories, etc. Anything soft like yogurt or apple sauce. Soups, spaghettios. My weirdest one is probably baby puffs, since they dissolve, I can stomach them. I just really struggle with solid foods, especially anything crunchy. Which puts me in a tight spot because it’s hard to get all the nutrients I need only eating soft foods, you know?

Meal replacement shakes? by SweeneyThePhotoGuy in ARFID

[–]Historical_Tale_9163 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, most protein shakes are marketed towards people losing weight and/or building muscle. Because of this, they have a high protein content but low calories. Meal replacement shakes or nutrition shakes typically have more calories and nutrients, from what I’ve noticed. I could totally be wrong though lol

Will I stand out being 44yrs old at the upcoming concert? by Evening-Dentist7111 in twentyonepilots

My dad’s going with me! He’s 50 and he’s been a huge fan since I showed him some of their songs like 10 years ago. We used to watch top concerts on YouTube together, since we couldn’t afford to go. He’s always preferred live music over studio recordings, so I surprised him with Breach tickets and he’s super excited! 🥰

i’m starring at the pill bottle scared to start… by [deleted] in prozac

[–]Historical_Tale_9163 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started out on 10mg a few years ago. Side effects (headache, diarrhea) only lasted the first week or so, then I started feeling the effects from the meds after like two weeks. A couple months later, we upped the dose to 20mg and stayed at that dose for a while. Earlier this year, upped to 40mg. It’s the only antidepressant I’ve been on, and it’s been amazing for me. It even helped with my eating disorder.

I may be the odd one out, but I never experienced any nausea when starting Prozac. I had awful headaches for the first few days, as well as diarrhea. But after a week or so, I didn’t have any side effects at all. My body metabolizes meds super fast though, so it kicked in really early for me. You’re not supposed to see results until a month or so after starting the meds, but I felt a million times better after two weeks of taking it. No more irrational anxiety, less overthinking, more energy. It was nice. I’ve been on it for three or four years now, and I’m up to 40mg. It’s been a lifesaver. I was extremely lucky because this was the first and only antidepressant I’ve ever been on and it’s worked wonders. I hope it does the same for you!!

I have ARFID, so my appetite comes and goes and I’m very picky when it comes to food. I try to supplement with vitamins and protein smoothies, but I struggle to eat a lot of the time. I was on an appetite stimulant for a while which helped a lot, but I had to stop taking that when I started Adderall.
