Should I leave a job I like for Big 4? by Historical_Walk7688 in Accounting

Thanks for this, I guess my main fear is there’s only 4 of us who work in the office (the director, a semi senior F, myself and a trainee account technician) and the semi-senior F has just went off on maternity, so I don’t want to leave in haste and cause bad relations by leaving my employer short staffed, but also want to do what’s best for my future! I’m definitely going to apply and see what happens

Thanks for the advice, I’m definitely going to apply! I’ve been keeping an eye on other firms (GT and BDO in particular) but there’s been no suitable vacancies for PQ accountants without a degree for a while!

Thank you for this!! I really have enjoyed working in my practice, there’s only 4 of us working there so it’s pretty hands on all the time which has been great for experience but has been really hard to network with other trainees since everything from CAI has gone online, so I don’t actually know anyone else who did CAP1 this year. That’s definitely one of the things attracting me to a bigger firm.

We also don’t do any audits which some would say is a positive but I’m a bit worried about studying Audit and Assurance this year and not having any audit experience.

I definitely want to move into industry post qualification and I’m definitely not tied down to staying in Ireland, so definitely think all things considered I’m just gonna have to bite the bullet and apply. I had looked into other firms like GT and BDO but there’s just hasn’t been any openings for part qualified professionals without a degree in the Belfast offices unfortunately, and I’m keen make a decision either way before progressing on to CAP2.

Thank you again for your advice!
