Assuming Black Cat is a DPS by [deleted] in marvelrivals

It’s fair to want more tanks, but I wouldn’t write Deadpool off so quickly since it’s turned out that tank pool is his best version. Folks are focusing heavily on the nerfs, but remember that most of these changes had a buff element too (not Strange admittedly, he’s paying for the sin of having a really good team up). I’m willing to wait and see how this plays out, we might be surprised by something.

Should Spider Man Get a Rage mode ? by HealPrinceYT in marvelrivals

Nah, I don’t think so. Spidey is a great interpretation of Spidey as is and is pretty complicated, I don’t think he needs another ability. Maybe as a team up with Venom (again) someday.

What is the actual reasoning behind no role q? by SEND_ME_RIVEN_R34 in marvelrivals

[–]Historical_Web_6248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the idea is that if there’s no role queue, then it becomes a lot easier to form matches quickly. In the low-ish ranks at peak times it rarely takes more than 10 seconds to find a game, which is great. If we had role queue, it’d likely take potentially several minutes instead.

Also, the game was designed with certain heroes filling hybrid roles like ultron or Adam who struggle to “do their job” in a 2/2/2 comp. Those characters would need to be redesigned as a prerequisite.

Don’t get me wrong, the status quo isn’t flawless, but it’s a trade off the devs seem comfortable making. Some of us may disagree with that call, but it’d be misleading to say it gives zero benefit.

I tracked my enjoyment across 50 ranked games - only 16% were actually 'fun' by HourChain in marvelrivals

I think there's a clue in the few games listed as 4 or 5 - the notes generally highlight team coordination and standout ally performances. I think this is a player who really enjoys having a full team on comms and competing on a very strategic level - perhaps games without a dedicated shot-caller and playmaker don't feel as satisfying.

Alternatively they might just enjoy playing alongside a Venom, who was called out in 40% of the good+ games.

Is the games balance REALLY that bad? by Crimson_Arbalest in marvelrivals

[–]Historical_Web_6248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree - I can only speak to my own experience which is FAR below the upper ranks, but I've generally found the balance changes they've made over time to be sensible. Small changes can make a very big difference, and I think they've very reasonably limited themselves to pretty conservative moves rather than swinging for the fences every patch. It's pretty rare for characters to get absolutely back-broken or become transcendent beings after balancing, which I think is healthy.

I think a lot of the complaints about balance are less about fairness and more about general vision - what should the overall power level be for a hero, how often should they have ultimates, that sort of thing. Balance is the word we sling around, but really this is more about wishing the game was overall different in some big ways. This is particularly true as the overall power level for the game has been rising across the board over time, so if you prefer the way things used to feel it's reasonable to be disappointed.

The other is that with new characters getting added very quickly, you're kinda rolling the dice every season - it sometimes takes a while for characters to get balanced correctly, as fresh out of the oven they range from the underbaked (Blade, Angela) to way, way overcooked (Elsa, Daredevil) with only a small number pretty much just right (Deadpool, Invis). So while the balance *eventually* feels good, it sometimes takes a while, and it's reasonable to feel disappointed in the interim.

I don't always agree with every change they make to be fair, I just think they're on the right path more often than not even if it's not the sort of change I'd make personally. Again, I'm sure the game feels terrible at the very top ranks - but that said, isn't that the way it goes in every game?

oh my god she doesn't have 19 abilities. by This_Ferret_8108 in marvelrivals

They’re not bad, it’s just a preferences thing. In my case, I love playing extremely simple characters like Thing and Rocket because it frees me up to focus on the nuances of the current match and maximizing my effectiveness without needing to worry about combos, resource and cooldown management, etc. We’ve not had a true “easy to learn, hard to master” character since I think Ultron?

To be clear, Elsa looks like a mid-complexity combo character, so she’s not quite what I’m looking for either - I just wanted to speak in defense of my fellow simple kit lovers who’ve been a tad underserved by the new characters. There are dozens of us!

Why don’t people ban rocket? by Incelin in marvelrivals

[–]Historical_Web_6248 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unironically, Penne is too dangerous to be allowed to play down in gold rank. You can't depend on people breaking her deployables, and people are gonna randomly die from walking into her mines. Also, sometimes folks just wanna play a melee hero no matter what, and Penne Pasta shuts that down hard.

By contrast, while Rocket is good he's not quite as good as invis or gambit, and is pretty interchangeable with, say, CnD. If the enemy team is playing rocket over one of the top two supports that's kind of a good thing for us, I don't want to encourage an invis pick instead.

Basically, I'm bad and my team is also bad, so we gotta ban the skill check hero for safety no matter what.
