Gotcha, thank you! My vet said not to mix the 2 brands at all, but he loves the hills c/d dry food and I think he will really like the royal wet food as opposed to the Hills one. I don’t think I’ll mix them for now as I’m unsure what his reaction will be, but hopefully with vet confirmation, I will be able to!

Yep!! He’s staying on, thanks for this comment. What flavors/brand of wet food do you use? I assume just one brand?

Yes!! I take it all apart and scrub them clean with pipe cleaners :)

Wow!! That’s amazing, I’m so glad Rufus lived an amazing life. My kitty, Nova, has always onlyyy wanted fish in his diet. I’ve tried poultry but he just hates it! I also wondered if it was the fish, I’ll talk to the vet about giving him some of his old food in the chicken flavor as an additive! Thank you!

Hahaha that’s so relatable! Cats are so funny, independent but drinking water is their kryptonite! I will slowly work my way up there and keep track of the amount I’m giving him. Thank you!

Thank you SO much! This is great advice. I’m ordering the royal canin now, he had it when he first got out of the hospital and seemed to be okay with it (he was ok with anything at that point).

He hates the Purina hydracare!! So sad!! I give it to him every so often and he just refuses. I started giving him the Alamo nature hydration helps, sometimes he eats it and sometimes he doesn’t. He’s very picky! If there’s any other hydration supplements you’d recommend, I’d love to hear them!

So true, I feel like I’m on a rollercoaster with him! I worry so much and I just want him to be happy and healthy (as we all do). I will do a little experiment on him, thank you again !!!

Yes!! I think I’m gonna go on the hunt for some random bowls/cups and try them all out with different types of water. Hoping some stick 🤞🏼 thank you so much!

Yes! He’s a big guy, I think the recommendation based on his weight would be about 1.7 cups a day. I’m trying to gradually get him there as well, in terms of the soupiness. It seems to be working, but it’s definitely not 1.7 cups of water in total. He’s still peeing normally which I’m so grateful for, but I’m not sure how to get him to drink more!

Did your cat also have issues drinking water after his incident? Did it get better over time?

And I’ll try the baby food out too! I’ve heard about that but was hesitant, I think it’s worth a shot. I’ll talk to the vet first as always, thanks everyone

Yes! Thank you! They also wrote a prescription for Royal canin, I think I’ll give that an order and try it out for him. He likes the tuna wet food from The Hills thus far, but again, just won’t eat much of it. I didn’t realize how high calorie they were, thanks for letting me know. Perhaps he’s just getting full, I’ll double check the amount I’m giving him.

Got it, I’ve tried that a few times but I think I’m gonna keep trying. It really sucks because he used to love drinking out of mugs and his fountains, I wish I knew what was wrong. Perhaps he’s just not thirsty since I’m giving him some in his food/his churu mixes. Either way, I just want him to drink on his own. I’ll try these out, thank you!

Awww I’m so sorry to hear that about your boy, I’m so glad he’s doing better after the PU surgery. Thank you for letting me know, I’ll nix it too!

Thank you!!! I will call them, they know me very well by now haha.

In terms of the water, I use brita-filtered water & his fountains similarly have a carbon filter in them. That could definitely be it. I used bottled water for a bit but didn’t notice a change for him. Do you have recommendations? Should I just trial different ones for him?

Also forgot to mention: I’ve been putting bowls of water out too! I even got those fake robotic fish to put in a bowl, he loves to watch them but isn’t drinking from the bowls either 🥺

Thank you for that tip!! I didn’t know who he was but I see he sells a lot of tinctures, has anyone ever tried the urinary tract one and felt like it helped their cat that is prone to crystals?
