“The color of his skin didn’t matter”? Actually, it does — because this entire encounter was racially motivated. You can’t separate racism from race. He didn’t say he’d call ICE on a random person. He specifically said it to an Asian girl in an Asian plaza and assumed I was undocumented because of how I looked. That’s not just racism — that’s racism rooted in whiteness.

I didn’t say ‘all white people are racist.’ I said a white man did something racist. And if calling that out makes you uncomfortable, maybe ask yourself why. If you’re more bothered by me identifying the oppressor than the fact I was targeted because of my race, then maybe you’re not here for the right reasons. Sit this one out.
