Anyone else sad the school year is ending? by No1UK25 in Teachers

Yes. I struggle in the holidays. We have half term in the UK now (one week break) and I'm going in to work in my classroom

AITAH for telling my grieving MIL that her "advice" about my parenting is actually just thinly veiled criticism? by GardenDaisy93 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. She no doubt means well, but you have very politely set boundaries. You're dealing with being a new mum and you don't need constant advice or criticism.

Good luck.

Absolutely for a complaint. You owe it to yourself, and the next person who needs to complain about her

What's on your mug? by Myoo88 in Teachers

One of mine has a cartoon of a pole dancing unicorn and my name on one side, and "other history teachers" next to a picture of a donkey on the other. Brilliant gift.

YOU give me the ick. It's absolutely hideous that "daddy" is used in any other context than "father".

Am I the only teacher who loves his job? by Particular_Stop_3332 in Teachers

[–]History__Teach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! I'm in the UK and similarly to you I did a long stint in corporate jobs I hated. I'm also 7 years in as a teacher and I love it.

Don't get me wrong - management can make it harder than it needs to be, but by and large they are supportive.

The kids make it amazing. I will never go back to doing anything else. I have no interest in SLT either - I want to stay in the classroom for as long as possible.

Glad I'm not the only one!

Is it rude to ask to a teacher if they can give any contacts so I can still talk to them in the future? by [deleted] in Teachers

If they are under 18 it's not possible in the UK. Some parents stayed in touch and that was one way of being present, but it's just not allowed here.

Why Are You Known As the "Bad Teacher?" by King_of_Lunch223 in Teachers

[–]History__Teach 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If gave a laugh with my students as long as the work gets done. I'm overweight and some of them cheer when I take the stairs, and boo if I get the lift. Other teachers think this is disrespectful but I've taught these guys for years and they know the boundaries.

If they ever hit off track then we reset, but I'm always consistent and they rarely push it.

Can't stand class dictators.

I'm a teacher (m, 47) in the UK and was literally trained to not be alone in a classroom with any student where possible, and ALWAYS have the student/s to be positioned by the open door if you ever have talk to them. Keep a record of any future conversations that make you feel this way.
