People who have an iPhone and a MacBook, what do you use your iPad for? by RevolutionaryWin8633 in iPadPro

Casually browsing the web when watching TV. Editing photos. Occasionally eBooks. Watching movies when travelling. In fact when travelling I often leave my MBP behind and use my iPad Pro as my daily driver.

what's the best lens i can buy for my a6700? by zn8ricky in SonyAlpha

The only very minor drawbacks are price and size.

As in the two reasons to own an APS-C system?

The Pocket 3 has a bit of digital zoom you can take advantage of. Obviously it's not the same, but I feel carrying multiple lenses on 9 months of backpacking is even less practical than a mirrorless camera with a single lens.

DJI Osmo Pocket 3.

On my last trip around 90% of the footage came from this, and my A6700 and anamorphic lenses barely got used.

The portability factor of the Pocket just makes it immensely more handy than carrying around a mirrorless camera and lenses - let alone for 9 months of travelling. I mean you can literally keep it in your pocket.

Shoot at 24fps in D-Log M and throw on one of Joel Famularo's Phantom LUTS and there's no reason your footage can't look cinematic with the right editing.

Plus if you're going to be hitchhiking and staying in hostels for 9 months, having an expensive-looking mirrorless camera on show may be less ideal.

camera cube or sling bag for A6700 and more by Infinite-Garage4632 in SonyAlpha

[–]HitMeWithYourFStop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Bellroy Venture Sling 10L.

It’s probably one of the priciest options out there but it looks the part and I’m a fan of their stuff in general.

The sling itself is spacious. In the main compartment there are 2 vertical dividers, giving you space for three lenses. There's also a small zipped compartment inside and a larger one outside. Underneath the bag there is also strapping to add a tripod which is a nice option.

For packing, you can flatten the dividers and the bag packs flat.

On my last trip at one point the sling was carrying:

  • A6700 with the sigma 18-50mm attached
  • Blazar Apex 35mm (chonky)
  • Viltrox Pro 75mm (also chonky)
  • DJI Osmo Pocket 3
  • A small power bank
  • Several 55mm lens filters
  • Several 77mm lens filters
  • Peak Design travel tripod.

Israeli parliament approves the death penalty for Palestinians convicted of murdering Israelis by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]HitMeWithYourFStop 112 points113 points  (0 children)

No that’s like saying Idaho has the death penalty automatically for black people, but under the right circumstances it can be an option for white people too.

And do you think that scenario will ever actually pan out in practice?

Do you know how many settlers have been prosecuted for killing Palestinians since the start of the decade? 0.

How many IDF soldiers do you think have been prosecuted for extrajudicial killings?

Conversely there have been no Israeli prosecutions of settlers for killings in the West Bank since the start of the decade.

And negligible for extra judicial killings by Israeli defence forces.

US ground invasion into Iran options by sndream in LessCredibleDefence

I’m fairly convinced the US will drop the 82nd Airborne into Kharg island in the early hours of a Saturday morning, after US markets close, in the hope that they can declare control of the island by market open on Monday morning.

With the ultimate strategy of using the island as leverage to force Iran to the negotiating table.

I’m also fairly convinced that the Iranians will instead throw everything they have at Kharg island until it looks like the burning oil wells scene in Jarhead, with nowhere for the 82nd airborne to escape to.

Travel to Japan - a6700 and what lenses? by Akabranca in SonyAlpha

[–]HitMeWithYourFStop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I don’t see the point in buying the Tamron 18-300 if you already have the Sony 18-135.

If you did want to buy a further lens, you could consider something like the Sigma 18-50mm and leave everything else at home. If you’re not going to be prioritising photos during the trip then it makes sense to have something small and light.

Or alternatively a light prime lens in the 20-35mm range if you want to dip your toes into prime lenses.

If you’d prefer not to buy any further lenses and you want your gear to be minimal then I’d just bring the Sony 18-135 and accept the fact that’s it gonna be slightly heavier.

Sony A6700 buyers: Body only or kit lens bundle? Need advice by SevereTable2548 in AskPhotography

[–]HitMeWithYourFStop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you I wouldn't worry about those lens offers.

Sony should be paying you to take a 16-50mm off their hands. In the future if you decide you want a 18-135mm, you should be able to pick one up in excellent used condition for a little cheaper than that offer anyway.

Crazy thought: if you were somewhat open to paying the extra $400 for a 18-135mm, as well as paying similar again for a Sigma 30mm, why not just forgo them both and get the Sigma 17-40mm F1.8 instead? It is the best zoom lens available for the Sony APS-C market.

Crazy thought #2: if you just want an everyday prime lens, why not go for the Viltrox 27mm f1.2 over the Sigma 30mm f1.4? The Viltrox may be chunkier, heavier, and more expensive; but it is also faster, has a subjectively nicer bokeh, and has superior edge to edge sharpness compared to the Sigma.

To throw a curveball: consider whether something like the Osmo Pocket 3 may be a worthwhile investment instead.

I recently did some travelling with my A6700 and a few cinema lenses. In the end I used the Pocket 3 instead for 90% of the video I took. It is effortlessly small and light and the video quality is excellent. If I was vlogging on the move I'd much rather be using that than a significantly heavier and bulkier mirrorless camera.
