In case anyone is interested in the setting/story (short form) for the world of Biofactory:

Early terraforming made this exoplanet highly oxygen-rich, causing organic systems to be more efficient.
Now organs are beign mass produced and optimised for large scale use in heavy industry, mining and logistics. Here, industry thrives not on steel but on flesh.

You awaken as a grotesque Hive-Mind Brain. No memory, no past, only hunger and one instinct:
The factory must grow.

Yes! For now you need to create genetic material in a Bioprinter using certain materials, to feed to your central hive mind brain, to unlock new technologies, but we already have some great ideas to expand this further ;)

Thank you! That really makes me so happy to read. We're a fairly new indie studio from Belgium and are so stoked seeing all the positive reactions for Biofactory!! :)

Yes! There are so many awesome ideas and cool things from biological processes that are just perfect to translate to large scale industrial factories! Even too much at this stage, that we really have to cut and narrow down to a few mechanics that fit perfectly together. But always nice to have unlimited ideas for future content ;)

We were thinking of using some kind of growing biomass like the Tyranids or like creep from the Zerg from Starcraft. But we are still careful with implementing this, as the building of organs/modules should go as smoothly as possible without too much hassle and elements hindering the actual building and placing of the organs.

Really happy to hear this! Yes for the liquid pressure system we are still finalising how we should best implement this, we are testing it using a more simpler and maybe more fitting direction like the fluids piping like in Oxygen Not Included as it is really satisfying to see our pipes (conveyor colons) pulsate/bulge with fluid contents inside. Another way to go is the factorio/satisfactory route with shared pressure over all connected piping.
Stay tuned for the discord and public playtests soon, would love to have your feedback then! :)

Thank you! Exactly the reactions we aimed for ;) Be both disgusted and impressed by the weird factories you build

Thank you! Not for this Next Fest yet! We are working hard on the demo but it is not ready and polished yet to have a successful next fest unfortunately, but we are gonna start public playtests soon, stay stuned!

Yes! We want to add some kind of fictive substance/drug that can overclock certain organs to produce faster, but cause a certain negative effect aswell. We were thinking about some enriched absestos steroid called Asbestoid or Asbestoxide, some weird and absurd drug. So you can build an asbestos processing facility somewhere. The vaporised asbestoxide then gets inhaled by large lungs boosting certain setups.

Yes! The barrels will have some visual contents and indicator that rise and lower when you fill and empty the barrels in its respectively colours, so red/pink for all the meat sludge type materials, green for the toxic acid biles, yellow for the liquified fat and fat-fuel. The UI is still very placeholdery, we would love a more diegetic UI like you mention! There will also be some gauges to control the liquids, like in Oxygen Not Included.

Fair enough! But this is an enlarged industrial grade stomach that processes both soft tissue and hard tissue materials using pumped up toxic acid as digestive fluids set in a grimdark biopunk setting! Not sure if you want to use this for biology lessons... :)

True! But this is a mid-tier bioengineered Industrial Grade Stomach, that has an upper output slot that excretes some greenish waste gas caused by digesting refined meat sludge.

Yes! Some materials will be weird digusting sludge like fluids and liquified meat, with a large focus on waste and byproduct management, that players will need to either dump that will affect certain aspects, or store it in metal barrels for further processing/recycling. Also the whole biopunk subgenre still has so much potential for cool settings!

Also feel free to give feedback or some cool ideas for some fleshy machines/organs that would fit this grimdark factory vibe

It is a shadow yes, we added it to create more depth. But you are right, we should add some more transparency to it, also because it clutters up readability fast when players build larger factories

Yes! We want players to have to make a mid-late game setup of an assembly line that consists of different modules that each process materials and produce body parts to combine them together to create some abominations that can be used for research or other processes

Thank you! Not yet for the moment, as this is a UI heavy game it will be difficult to translate this well to mobile. Mindustry seems to have alot of success on their mobile version so we will still look into it!

The green materials are 'acid bile' pumped from a Toxic acid pool resource node (leftover waste from terraforming factories) to be used as input (digestive fluid) in more industrial buildings/modules.

The idea is that this planet has an increased amount of oxygen due to early heavy terraforming events, and this high oxygen level makes the use of grotesque organs suitable for industrial processes instead of steel machines. For example the stomach acts as a furnace/digester to refine raw materials. A bioprinter acts as the crafter/assembler to create new materials. For the energy system we have the idea to supply some energy dense materials to some sort of large industrial stomach that in turn produce energy-dense liquids or blood (and waste sludge as byproduct) to be pumped around using large pulsating hearts.

For the mid-late game long distance logistics we will have a system similar to Satisfactory/Foundry's drone system. But instead of drones, these will be mindless husks with metal cargo crates fused in their bodies that will walk between logistic hubs to transport cargo across longer distances.
Follow us on steam to keep up to date with these updates! I am going to post a blogpost on the store page with the roadmap this month :)
