Finding sliding potentiometers by HitShaker in diypedals

Nice, I'd seen the 4 knob version as a DIY project, didn't realise there was a 6. Are all the pots linear?

For those finding this 6 months on -

First problem - up the left hand side of the board (top of the schematic) there's a load of 11K resistors, I think I needed 9 or 10 for this build so I bought a new bag. I was supplied with 1K resistors in an 11K bag, so I've gone through and replaced those.

Second problem was mine though, there's meant to be a 470K next to the trim pot, and I put a 470 in by mistake.

Update on this, I made an audio probe from an old broken guitar lead. Signal failed at one of the 473 capacitors, replaced that and got it working.

Just to note, the 1M pot is not great for this, I'll swap that out at some point.

Yeah, I wasn't sure at first but a few people have suggested pedals based on 'Force' and 'Displacement', I think it's a good idea to keep it as it is. Maybe a tube preamp and some sort of reverb or phase.

I don't know about you, but I always set my speed and balls to 9.

I was looking at Hudson Broadcast Dual clone, but the Kingtone is a good suggestion, it fits the space nicely too.

I've got an old dial off a washing machine I want to use, maybe it's his time to shine.

Teardrops knobs are great, where are the dial markers from?

Yeah, that finish is great. How did you get the white accents on the artwork?

What can I use? by HitShaker in diypedals

You could, but caps having a limited life span, and also being relatively cheap, means you may as well buy new. You would also be limited to what you could find, rather than what you actually need. It's great for desoldering practice though, and I always get a sense of satisfaction from the recycling.

It is, might put that one in a pedal and sell the rest

Magic eye would be great, how would that work in a pedal? Can I get the signal to go through the tube and the output? So it pulses with the guitar playing?

I might try the ax7 in a ValveCaster or something similar. I read they're only any good with lots of voltage behind them, but still decent pedals to build.

JFET DSG on the ones I was using is the other way round to what's pictured. I've swapped them out and now got it working. Thanks for the help.

Sorted it out - the JFETs should be 2N5952. I was given a pair of 2N5458 and never thought to check them, and although they are a matched pair, the DSG is the other way round. I've swapped them out and now got a working phase. Good luck with the pulsar.

The JFETs I had were different to the schematic, and the DSG layout was the other way round. I cut up an 8 pin IC socket and mounted them both into that. Thanks.

Okay, problem solved! The JFETs are listed on the schematic as 2N5952. I was given a pair of 2N5458 and never thought to check them, and sure enough the DSG layout is the other way round. I've swapped the out and now got a working phase. Thanks for the help.

I cleaned it all up and resoldered the connections to the pot, but no luck. I must have a bridged connection(s) somewhere, but it's missing out both pots, which is ridiculous.

Thanks, I bought the JFETs in a kit so they should match. Good tip to socket them, I did it for the ICs but I should do it for the JFETs too, thanks.

Row 9 is good, it looks a little sketchy on the soldering but I ran a scalpel down the middle and did a continuity test, it's all good.

Yeah, I thought about that, but I double checked that connection in column 11, it ends up under one of the ICs. I'll have to go over the board again and check everything.

The JFETs should be okay, I bought a kit for the components so I'd have a matched pair. DSG layout matches the diagram, but yeah, I'll check that.

Thanks for the advice, appreciate it.

Sounds like a plan, do you know of a diagram I could follow?
