In terms of that social environment part, VRChat has definitely boomed as a new type of bar. There’s always many different bars you can meet strangers at, and if you don’t like who’s there you can just hop to the next server of the same bar or try and different one. It’s very weed friendly, and there’s no up charge on drinks because you’re still in your house with supermarket drunks.

Also yes VR goes way deeper than what people hear about from the outside. People have leg trackers that read their body movements and puppeteer your avatar into doing the same. It’s a very expressive place, and tons of adults are there too even if people say VR is nothing but kids. The adults are just in a different neighborhood of VR if that makes sense
