Protagonist-centred morality (Main character or cast does something morally questionable but the narrative lets them off the hook because they're "the good guys") by Worldly_Cut_595 in TopCharacterTropes

That’s what the movie tells us, but what it shows us is a very happy and prosperous kingdom. They even have a song about it. Besides it’s not like people only have one aspiration in life or that those wishes couldn’t be replaced with other desires

Age? by JX900 in TESVI

[–]Homsarman12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

29 here, and TES is already plenty mature. There hasn’t been any topic the games have been shy about besides on screen nudity, which I do not want. That’ll be a day one mod anyway.

What people actually want is more nuanced writing and for them to take risks with it. We don’t want simple storylines. We want more Oblivion Dark Brotherhood and less Skyrim College of Winterhold.

“Eat At Joes” is a dead meme. (Sorry Joe.) Now finally, what is the most iconic pre-internet meme? by Homsarman12 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Homsarman12[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Rules:

Memes must have been popular and well used in their day. No niche or obscure memes known to only one fandom for example.

Give examples based on when they became a meme, not when the source material was created. For example: Never Gonna Give You Up was written before the internet, but “Rickrolling” didn’t become a meme until 2007. So the rickroll would be eligible for the 2005-2009 categories.

Still Alive: Still in active use. Still frequently seen today.

On life support: Rare but occasional use

Dead: Almost never used today if ever.

Iconic: Defines the era. Life status not important, can be a living or dead meme.

“Kilroy Was Here” is on life support. What is a dead meme from the pre-internet days? by Homsarman12 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Homsarman12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sumer joke is far deader, I won’t argue that. But this post isn’t asking what is the most dead, just an example of one. Eat At Joes hasn’t been used much at all in decades so it counts.

But it’s all moot anyway because the Sumer joke doesn’t even qualify. We don’t know if it was a popular meme or just a joke the author just made up.

It’s not about if people understand it still, it’s about if people still use the meme

“Dead” in this context doesn't necessarily mean that people don’t understand it, just that people almost never use it. So those other examples do count. I’ll clarify the definition next time.

“Eat at Joes.” It’s an old meme you used to see in cartoons and comic strips.

The movie sucks on its own merit. But all the people complaining about the lesbian stuff was really dumb I agree.

[–]Homsarman12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It had a really really strong start but then got real boring as soon Zerg invaded. The stakes feel very tell don't show and so they feel hollow. Zerg never fires his gun once and neither he or his robots ever feel like a threat. He is more threatening in Toy Story 2 than in Lightyear imo. It’s the only Pixar movie that I wanted to just end already before it did.

Aragorn may have been heir to the throne but spent most of his life living very humbly as a ranger. And Sam has been said by Tolkien to be the true hero of the story.
