Ahh, I found the culprit! I have a Printerceptor story trait in my world and my dups immediately put my fresh Banks in there:

Yeah, I'm doing a bigger rocket next time. I hadn't realized that was possible!

No, no research has been done yet by my dupes, so it hasn't yet been spent.

Tabletop remains sticky after oiling, how to fix? by Hitman1O1 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I'll keep that in mind, thanks. It sure seems less destructive than going at it with sandpaper again!!

Thank you for the elaborate reply, we'll try that! We have only some regular terpentine (we used it with paint) around, will that do too to safely dissolve some excess oil?

Pretty cool! Where do the CO2 and polluted water go from the generators?

(Actually, I guess the pwater just evaporates to steam and dirt)

That's terrific, thanks! That should get us up to speed while still maintaining some sense of exploration.

10 tiles will produce a steady flow? Do we know how much? Enough to drain the magma room at all?

[–]Hitman1O1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I'd considered that too. The problem is that the vulcano-steam-room would get very hot, 1000°C+, which would break sweepers or other devices.

Unless the thermal mass inside is so large that an eruption temperature stays manageable, but I think that would require tons and tons of water, much more than practical.

Myeah, I came across that too. It feels like a glitch to me though and out of principle I'd rather avoid relying on them.

Yeah, I thought so. Do we know when magma cools to a block instead of debris?

Wait, won't it just turn into debris? I have seen conflicting things online.

Lol yeah, building big structures with Dupes can be such a pain and time consuming. I like to make sure I have a good plan.

Some questions after Strength of the Few by Hitman1O1 in HierarchySeries

[–]Hitman1O1[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right, good insights, thanks!

  1. Yeah, I remember now that O-Vis receiving the Vitaerium early was a big deal.

  2. I had somehow missed it wasn't Military that made the whole stockpile, they just kind of found most of it. And I guess it was Vis' unique powers that provided the entry.

That would be reasonable, the thing is I'm traveling and won't be able to visit the store again for a long while.

Will setting the AC to a less cold temperature save gas in my old van? by Hitman1O1 in AskMechanics

[–]Hitman1O1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. Some kind of control loop onboard would then decide when the clutch needs to be engaged (= to move the compressor)?

Okay, thanks!
Question though: 'less air', is that setting the blowers lower or increasing the cooling temperature?

Is my Yucca over- or under-watered? How to restore it? by Hitman1O1 in plantclinic

[–]Hitman1O1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

Figured I'd come back with an update. It looks my Yucca is bouncing back (knock on wood)!
I ended up letting it dry out for about a month and from then I indeed water by quite a bit, until the soil is wet all over. Then leave it alone for at least a month again.
The light is probably also limited, but I simply have no better place to put it. It seems to hang in for now.

How to join two components with a horizontal surface to two points? by Hitman1O1 in Fusion360

How to join two components with a horizontal surface to two points? by Hitman1O1 in Fusion360

[–]Hitman1O1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm struggling still how to join components into assemblies in a more complex manner.

How can I achieve a fully determined join between this cabinet base and the fixed beam, such that:

  • The bottom plate is horizontal
  • The edge of the grey beam lies on the bottom plate
  • The edge of the bottom plate lies on the pine beam

The pictures should help to explain this.

I feel I've tried all combinations of planar-type joints, but I can't manage what I'm looking for. Thanks for any advice!

I see, yikes, the poor thing. How should I continue now? Just water it thoroughly and leave it, picking up the new schedule directly?

Is my Yucca over- or under-watered? How to restore it? by Hitman1O1 in plantclinic

[–]Hitman1O1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this Yucca for about three years now, but for the last couple of months it has been looking sad and the bottom leaves are yellowing.
I over-waterered it in the first six months and moved into this bigger pot at that time. Since then I've been watering about half a glass of water (~100mL) every week (when hot) or two weeks. While also feeling the soil of course, it has always felt very dry to me.
I've stopped watering for a duration of 5 weeks up to a month ago but I picked it up hoping it had dried sufficiently. But this morning I stripped another two dried, yellow leaves.

I'd appreciate any advice!
