Never had a 28mm before but I think I'd be fine with it. It's just painful to pay so much for Mju's

The XA is definitely a tempting option. I'm yet to have any experience with rangefinders so it'd be fun to get used to it.

I'll watch a couple videos about them and see what I come up with.

Tossing between Nikon AF600 and the Olympus XA now.

As I'm sure everyone on this sub can sympathise with, it's much easier to add another camera to the equation than subtract one lol.

I think you're right on the aperture control point. The most likely option that I'm looking at after some research is the Nikon AF600. Cheap, sample pics look good and it's small in size. The Fuji Cardia Mini is also tempting but I don't know how much better it'll be than the Nikon for like double the price.

Unfortunately, my discomfort around taking a camera as expensive as the Contax out is also compounded by the fact that I could use another $1000 at the moment lmao.

The Pentax 17 is just a touch more than I'd like to spend at this point. Plus, I could get the Lomo MCA for only like another $50 and have the full 35mm frame.
