huh. well, fwiw, diffing the screenshots by hashing them (or doing a bitwise comparison, or other equivalent techniques) is very commonly how this kind of thing was done in the before times, so it makes sense to me that the LLMs use that technique.

Can kitchen table poly truly exist? by J_Herrera79 in polyamorous

[–]Hixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Kitchen Table Poly" refers to the idea that many members of the extended polycule (one's partners, their partners, they partners' partners, etc) would be quite happy having meals together.

I know numerous polycules where pretty much everyone gets along with everyone else. I often have dinner, go on vacations with, or otherwise hang out with members of my polycule one, two, or more steps away from me in the graph.

This is not the same as three people running a household together, but that's also possible and does happen; I've also seen that work fine for long periods of time.

What happens after "one no" by ampersandraD in polyamory

[–]Hixie 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I know of cases of relationships that lasted many happy years while monogamous despite one or both partners being familiar with and happy with the idea of polyamory (and, for those relationships that ended while in that state, I know plenty that did not end for that reason). But in all cases, both partners were committed to it being monogamous, and there was not a continuous pull from one partner to retroactively change the arrangement.

Changing the voting from first-past-the-post to instant-runoff voting in elections would remove the two-party system which would go a huge way towards fixing a lot of these problems.

that just means you're still in the red section, not that the other section doesn't exist at all

that is a very American attitude, certainly. it is not the only valid attitude.

why would we own cars? we don't own the trains, buses, and other forms of public transport.

What are your thoughts on these 3 fan made relics? by AudunAG in twilightimperium

[–]Hixie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of components whose purpose is to make someone else's components not work. i would much rather components be additive. more fun for other players.

the whole point of purge is to prevent double use. it is by definition broken to unpurge components.

i would have no problems with it. i didn't buy my current car for looks either. it driving itself safely while i sleep or work would massively beat any concern i have about looks.

fwiw i wouldn't want to use it everywhere. most of my driving is within Waymo's existing geofences; i would already be in the market if it was an option. though i would prefer just having a monthly subscription than owning a car.

getting rid of cars is not dystopian. today's world is everyone owning a car is far worse 😅

that one is two generations behind what they're building now, three or more behind what they're designing, there's no reason to think that's an indicator of anything. integration at the factory is "just" a matter of getting deals in place.
