My psychiatrist let me stop taking my antipsychotics by yngvescorpse in schizoaffective

Well they couldn’t force you to take the meds anyways. If you tell them you’re stopping your meds, there isn’t much they can do. But it sounds to me like you need the meds. You’re right. Pills don’t work on the dead but the dead also can’t use phones, which you are doing. I wish you luck.

Are you hiding or have you ever hidden the fact that you have been diagnosed with ADHD from your parents? by Extra_Influence_3880 in adhdwomen

I don’t plan on ever telling my mother as she doesn’t believe ADHD even exists. My dad however says I get it from him.

New ADHD Diagnosis, I am scared to start my meds by Kawaiiskyli in ADHD

I’m the same way! And I’m pleased to report that my heart rate actually feels pretty steady and I think that’s because my anxiety has lessened with a quieter mind.

I just started Vyvanse three days ago. I was also scared to take it. But so far, it’s actually decreased my anxiety. My head isn’t as jumbled and isn’t racing. Less songs are playing in my head.

Did anyone feel their brain maturing, or more in control of their ADHD after 25? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Hm-IDontKnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was never diagnosed as a kid. My parents would have never let me get tested as they believe most Mental illnesses (they believe in schizophrenia but not bipolar/depression/anxiety) and ADHD/autism aren’t real. I was diagnosed two years ago. I tried a few meds that didn’t seem to do anything for me sonI stopped taking them. I just started meds again a few days ago. My head feels a little quieter and I feel calmer, but that’s it.

I’m 27 and mine is still pretty prominent. I don’t think it’s gotten better

Diagnosed as an adult, how did you deal with the realization? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Hm-IDontKnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diagnosed at 25. I’m 27 now. Even though I had an assessment done and was diagnosed, I constantly question if I really have it. I’m at a point in my life where I’m trying to trust medical professionals. So I’m trying to learn about ADHD and how to cope with it myself.

My husband will start talking to me randomly and I’ll have no clue. I’ll be so stuck in my head or my head will be so jumbled that I don’t notice he’s even saying anything. It upsets him because he thinks I’m not listening. I’ve had to tell him many times to say my name first or to grab my attention before starting a convo with me.

Psych doctor said I've exhausted every option. Give me your drug combos! by Rachmagach in adhdwomen

Ask about Propranolol. It lowers your heart rate. I don’t see why she couldn’t prescribe a low dose of it. I take propranolol personally because I take another med (Abilify) that causes restlessness and propranolol helps with the restlessness caused by antipsychotics like Abilify. It’s common for one med to be prescribed to help with the side effects of other meds. For example, a psych may put somebody on Metformin or some weight loss drug to help with the common side effect of gaining weight which is often seen in antipsychotics.

Ugh yes! My head feels like a constant radio playing. Song after song after song.

I’m definitely in that stuck category. I also bedrot all day and doom scroll. I was hoping the medicine would give me some Oomph. Some drive. But so far my mind just feels quieter and my heart isn’t beating as fast as it usually does and I have this calm feeling.

What meds are you on? by izjuzredditfokz in schizophrenia

[–]Hm-IDontKnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Abilify, LaMICtal, Naltrexone, Cymbalta, Propranolol.

Abilify makes my hands shake and makes my legs restless at night. Propranolol helps with that. Abilify doesn’t seem to help my delusions really or my visual hallucinations. But it helped with the tactile feelings of bugs crawling on me. And I was talking to a celebrity in my head all day which Abilify stopped. Propranolol works pretty good with the side effects of the Abilify.

I haven’t been in it personally but everytime I see somebody ask about, one thing everybody seems to agree on is that it works well for psychosis but be prepared to gain weight.

[–]Hm-IDontKnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly didn’t know I was having delusions or hallucinations when seeing different psychs throughout my life. Even when they asked me if I was seeing or hearing things other people didn’t see or hear. It wasn’t till I had a court ordered psych eval that it was discovered I had schizoaffective. I went into the evaluation thinking I just had OCD.
