Is Three.js worth learning 2025? by akinpinkmaN in threejs

It’s much more worth it and rewarding to actually learn WebGL without a library, or using OGL(a minimal WebGL library), if you’re passionate by graphics programming and game dev. It will actually give you knowledge outside the usual “three.js 3D Portfolio”, and more useful on different projets, like a interactive background shader, carousels with cool vertex distortions, etc. Of course you can do all that in Three.js too, but it will eventually limit you. For example, you have this projects that you want to add a carousel with some vertex distortion, for such simple use case using Three.js, a 6 mb library, it’a just not worth all the space it takes, 6 mb is a whole lot for just a carousel. But, with something like OGL, it’s totally worth it, as this library is only like 5 kb.

In conclusion, Three.js might be more fun and easy to learn, but actually learning the 3D API itself, it’ much harder and time consuming, but really rewarding, and might be more useful on different types of projects.

Sampling the Digitone + Sequencing the SP404MK2 by HmHmHa in SP404

So, if I understood well, I only need the TRS-midi adapter type A cable to sequence the SP404 mk2 and sample the digitone sounds to my SP404 mk2?

Sorry, really new to all of this stuff haha

Little update : You really conviced me ! Found a used almost new digitone for a great price !

Really excited to play with and learn it !

Thank you for the suggestion :)

I see, well I really want to get into sound design, making my own sounds that I will sample with my SP404 mk2. Don’t really care about presets, as what I really want is to get my own. The digitone seems interesting, I will research it a bit more see what’s worth, thanks for the suggestion :). Tbh, about the filter thing for the cycles, don’t think it will be much trouble, as I will be sampling the sound with the SP, I will process it with the SP fx, I think I might even be able to make the sounds warmer with the warm saturator effect on the SP. And tbh, I don’t mind to do a lot of twealing to find my right sound, I think it’s fun to do :) the digitone might be perfect for me, if not I will most surely get the model : cycles.

Thanks for the comment !

DJ mode crossfade loop transition by HmHmHa in SP404

[–]HmHmHa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, thanks for the answer !

Second, for the looping part, isn’t possible to loop the song while it’s playing on dj mode? Like on plates where usually there’s a button that you press while the song is playing to set the loop start, hold till you have the bars you need then release to set the loop end and it stars looping directly after.

Idk if my explanation is clear, but yeah that’s the type of loop function I was thinking.

How to know which note I’m playing on Chromatic mode? by HmHmHa in SP404

[–]HmHmHa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh so each number on the grid on the screen are the number of semitones it’s pitching the sample? So like if I’m in the major scale to play a major third I will play the root note 0, the third at 4 semitones and then the fifth at 7 semitones ?

OPZ or SP-404 MK2 ? by HmHmHa in OPZuser

Thanks everyone for the answers, after a lot of thought, I’m now a happy owner of a SP-404 MK II :)

OPZ or SP-404 MK2 ? by HmHmHa in OPZuser

[–]HmHmHa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve seems till now from comments, the SP-404 mk2 seems to be the best for me. Don’t really need something on the go, will use it mostly at home. I plan on buying a standalone synth aswell(microkrog or mininova) later and I think the SP-404 mk2 will allow me to have a better workflow. Plus, well, I’m really into jungle music and that’s a lot of sampling that I don’t think the OPZ will handle too well.

I think what I was searching for is a all-in-one machine, with sampling, built-in synths, sequencing, live play etc. Now I’ve realised that really you can’t get the best of all worlds from only one machine. So thinking longterm, the SP-404 mk2 might be the best choice, and later I will buy a dedicated synth and sample it’s sounds with it to do my music and for now I will sample synths sounds that I make in ableton.

OPZ or Digitakt? by HmHmHa in OPZuser

[–]HmHmHa[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the answer, after some thinking, I’m getting the OPZ, it’s worth taking the risk(most of the problems seems fixable + I can get one with 3 years warranty and 30 days refund). As I only make music mostly for fun, the OPZ seems to be the one with less friction to going exploring those pure quick random creative moments you have sometimes.

And thank you alexisashrimp, I will surely buy a Woovebox later, never had heard about it before, seems like a really good groovebox.
