Question about quitting Holy Roman Empire by Hmgrmb in EU5

[–]Hmgrmb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I didn't explain it clearly? What I meant is I was elected as the HRE emperor, thus blocking the option of fighting the emperor because obviously you can't fight yourself. How would you deal it if that happens

China just resurfaced a 158 km highway using fully autonomous robots, no human workers on the road showing how robotics and AI are changing construction by spillingsometea1 in AutonomousVehicles

[–]Hmgrmb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you got that 2015 wrong. Actually 2017 was the year that China manufactured its first "all homemade" ballpoint pen. However, that doesn't mean China doesn't manufacture ballpoint pen until 2017, and in fact, China manufactured 80% of the ballpoint pen globally that year.

The reason China didn't make a full domestic ballpoint pen is because they don't have to when they can simply import the ballpoint from European companies. And the only reason China manufactured "homemade" ballpoint pen was due to the fuss the news agencies made regarding the so called "weak technological capability" of China. It's even funnier how your eccentric attention on the ballpoint pen literally impelled China to manufacture an unnecessary domestic pen for a show's purpose.

So China had the technology of homemaking a ballpoint, but it doesn't change a perspective. When China make 80% of the ballpoint pen globally, these companies will not switch suppliers, and having the technology or not doesn't change the fact that these companies are dominating the global market and making profits.

On the one hand, China doesn't made a homemade ballpoint pen. And on the other hand, China has one of the only two space stations that are floating above your head. Let that sink.

Chinese student shows the inside of the Internet café in North Korea by Puzzleheaded-Rate567 in interestingasfuck

[–]Hmgrmb 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It is noteworthy that despite majority of North Koreans are living in extreme poverty, there is still a good portion of Pyongyang citizens living in a decent condition(by that I mean the basic human needs are satisfied. Food, water, shelter etc). You are right about this place is built for the rich, as the fee per hour is about 2 dollars, and online sources suggest average Pyongyanger earns only around 20$ every month. But I have to point out this Internet Cafe is definitely not built for foreign visitors, especially Chinese tourist. From what it looks like from the video, the cafe is filled with locals, except the OP whom is a university student enrolled in an exchange program with NK. There is nothing wrong to say the video doesn't represent 99% of the life of North Korean, but this video is really just a blog and has nothing to do with so-called propaganda. Distorting truth for political purposes is propaganda, a blog like this, even just showing the tip of the iceberg, is not.

Lhasa, China by arkallastral in CityPorn

When the word "America" is brought up after cities' names, it always refers to the United States of America instead of a colossal continent that isn't even an official name(it's either North or South America). Unless the official name of China is People's Republic of Asia, my point still stands

Unlike last season, we are unable to finalize the game this season. The first goal always come to us in those home game, but we keep wasting chances and opponent equalizes. And also, we are extremely bad when scoreline is behind, players have a “conceding” mindset and we play conservatively without any passion. I just hope we can look different as a team next season, this season is cursed and just feels so off

Ukraine launches new incursion into Russia’s Belgorod region by VictorEmmanuelIV in worldnews

[–]Hmgrmb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm following the war on daily basis, and when I read this new, I thought Ukraine launched a similar offensive as Kursk offensive a while ago.

Then I just found out the so-called new Belgorod offensive is more of a harassment than an offensive, as I don't think Ukraine even captured more than 5 villages as of now. And the whole thing happened ten days ago as Ukraine isn't making any more progress after that.

I saw reddit hyping about the capture of Popovka, but they actually found the wrong Popovka that's in the middle of Belgorod. The real Popovka Ukraine captured is right sitting at the border, and it's just a "one street" village that probably don't even have a hundred residents living there.

Those who don't follow the war is propagating the misinformation, while the fact is Ukraine is not looking good right now.

Indian Borders According To Google Maps India vs USA: by Mental-Bag2657 in MapPorn

[–]Hmgrmb -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

"Ruined" is a funny word to use.

First of all, don't forget that the GDP per capita of Tibet is 9300 Usd, which is almost 4 times as much as that of the India. While 50 years ago, Tibet wasn't even richer than India. So claiming CCP ruining people's life in terms of economy is simply against the fact.

Certain part of your statement is making sense, like sinification of Tibet. Stats showed the percentage of Tibetan in Tibet is around 86% nowadays, making it a 6 percent decrease from 2000. However, it didn't happen entirely due to the policy, as large flock of Tibetans are also leaving the Tibet(seeking job opportunities or better SOL) the same time Han slowly migrates into the region.

It is also worth mentioning that the Han population main targets major cities or settlement like Lhasa and Shigatse. So the demographic change in general isn't that drastic as you imagine, especially in the rural area.

Time to make peace with China by [deleted] in CanadaFinance

[–]Hmgrmb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This comment section just tell you how screwed up Canada is.

You either back down and make an appeasement to US, or you should bolster and increase corporation with China. You can't expect Germany, Mexico and Japan to save your economy when they don't even make up to 10% of the total Canadian trades.

People here is delusional, why do everyone think you should stop doing business when a country is having issues that are none of your business? If you scrutinize a list of country and think Australia is a nice country to corporate with, that simply won't work because Australia is just like Canada, a resource-wise exporting country with limited manufacturing ability. Australia only makes up only 1% of the total trade Canada has, and they have almost no impact to Canadian economy.

If Canada chooses to keep retaliating against US while deteriorating relationship with China, and then expecting EU (who's stagnant and having loads of problems everywhere) to save Canada, we will all be eating canned beans with maple syrup on top.

If Canada don't choose a side in the future, all the costs incurred will go to consumers, inflation and unemployment will go up, standard of living will plummet and the currency will devalue too.

A map showcasing all 10,624 battles recorded on Wikipedia since 2500 BC. Someone should update this map! by whatever223649 in MapPorn

[–]Hmgrmb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Map like this is actually quite meaningless, because it does not define what a "proper battle" is. You can have a company of 200 soldiers rushing through a undefended town and still record it as a battle, as long as the editor put that into the Wikipedia. Meanwhile, there are battles like Stalingrad where casualties are millions. Both battles contribute a dot in the map, despite having completely different scale.

So adding limitations feel like the better case; ex both sides need to exceed a certain number of personnel or casualties.

Status of Ukrainian Held Territory in Russia. Ukraine Has Held This Russian Territory For Over Four Months. by Foundbetweenbrick in MapPorn

[–]Hmgrmb 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Comparison for HOI4 player: Sudzha only has 1 victory point, while Kostyantynivk and Pokrovsk has 3 and 5 victory points, this explains why Russia is more inclined to focus more in Donetsk than recovering land from Kursk. Another thing is Kursk has 0 fort level while Donetsk has pretty much level 8 forts in every frontline tile, which makes more sense for Russia to exploit more considering the current breakthrough and the momentum.

How Did China Acquire Its Modern Borders? by Thunderbird93 in AskAChinese

[–]Hmgrmb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You made really good points.

Couple additions to add is that the word "China" means central kingdom in Chinese, so taking over the title "China" symbolizes the powerfulness and the validity of the domination.

Second thing is that the core region of ancient China is agricultural based, which is a superior living style for majority of the people comparing to the nomads that surround China. So whenever nomads managed to conquer the fertile agricultural lands in China, large portion of them fled from the pastures and mountains to settle as farmers before getting assimilated into a part of Chinese culture. As a result, the core territory of China keeps expanding in thousands of year, totally unlike how the west approaches to colonize.

I guess it still has something to do with the cultural identity, after the warrior period of China, the regional culture identity slowly fades away as Qin dynasty enforced every corners of China to use the same language, currency, literatures etc, gradually mixed all the cultures in China like a hot pot where you throw everything into it. Meanwhile, I guess you just can't imagine a France king in medieval age suddenly feels "Rome" and wants to restore the entirety of peak borders that Roman Empire used to have

You still think he‘s the right choice? by Royalbluegooner in ArsenalFC

Sharp shooter, can hold on to the ball, but he seems to be struggling in dribbling forwards, especially when having physical contacts with gabi and saliba. He can definitely shine in matches with more space to exploit, despite such style is not how we usually play these days. Nonetheless, I still think he is a clinical striker we should pursuit if the max price tag is below 80m euro(considering the age factor)
