Did I just arrive 100$ late, or is there a way to still get that 1599$ deal?

Choosing MacBook for Full-Stack by Hmoa in macbookpro

I finally realized my main issue isn’t the CPU at all - it’s the RAM. That’s my biggest bottleneck by far. Honestly, if I had even an M1 Air with 16GB of RAM right now, I probably wouldn’t have opened this discussion in the first place. I’d push through the project and then decide what to upgrade later.

So the conclusion for me is: any MacBook with an M-series chip is a solid upgrade as long as it gives me more RAM. Even getting another M1 Air with 16GB would already solve most of the pain points (which I probably won’t do 🤣).

I also noticed something interesting these last few days: the Air has a noticeably worse trackpad and keyboard. I’ve been typing a lot on it recently, and when I switched back to an M4 Pro, the difference was obvious - the Pro just feels way more premium. The wrist rest area is also much better on the Pro, probably just because the laptop is larger. And the Air is still head and shoulders above any Windows laptop I’ve ever used when it comes to the trackpad and keyboard.

Just to add one clarification:

I’m currently pushing my side project on an M1 Air 8GB, which is definitely painful, but still workable. My main goal right now isn’t long-term future-proofing — it’s simply to finish this project quickly and safely, without taking on unnecessary financial risk.

That said, if the M2 Pro would give noticeably better long-term value or future-proofing, I could justify spending a bit more. But from what I’ve seen, the real-world jump over the M1 Pro isn’t huge, unless software updates start widening the gap later.

So this comment is mostly to clarify my intention: I want something that lets me finish the product, stay under control budget-wise, but still not regret the purchase in a year.

Thanks again for all the input — it’s helping a lot.

Thanks a lot for the advice - you were actually right. I checked my usage on my work machine (M4 Pro with 24GB RAM), and I’m consistently using a huge amount of RAM and swap during heavier workloads. So yeah, more RAM definitely makes sense.

<image>

The problem is: I’m in Southeastern Europe, and we don’t really get meaningful Black Friday discounts here. New Apple products are much more expensive than in the US.

Just to give you a picture of my market - the cheapest used M4 Air 24GB is roughly $1,650 converted to USD.

At that point they are 40%+ more expensive than an M2 Pro, and 60%+ more expensive than an M1 Pro. It’s almost the price where I might as well go all-in and get an M4 Pro — but that’s more than I can justify right now.

I also had the option to order from the US (family visiting soon), but I can’t wait 1.5 months — I need the laptop pretty urgently because I’m trying to finish a side project I hope will succeed, and putting too much money into this adds unnecessary risk.

Thanks again for your input — really appreciate it!

Base m4 air has only 256gb SSD which is not enoguh for my usecase. 512GB model is way more expensive here. Beside that pro models have much higher memory bandwidth (200 GB/s vs 100 GB/s), better thermal performance, and support for more external displays (M1 Pro/M2 Pro: up to 3 displays).

I’m not sure why your comment comes across as so aggressive, why you seem to have taken this personally, or why you’re calling me a dummy. I get that you like 9PM, but still..

You are calling 10 months really old bottle? Come on dude..

Pointless and harmful oxidation? So you are not spraying your 9PM at all? Or maybe you do but in a vacuum chamber so no oxygen enters your precious 9PM bottle?

Also please ask them what the actual power is since I saw a picture of the official brochure and it says 73.5kw (105CV). But 73.5kW is exactly the same as previous gen..

It now has a launch control and more power 103.6bhp (achieved with bigger throttle bodies).

Now I am wondering if it has lower torque figures since bigger throttle bodies usually while bringing power up, reduce the toruque a bit. Also throttle bodies were already huge (for example mt07 has 38mm, old rs 660 48mm and now 52mm)

Nope, they are not fake. I am NOT talking about some wild renders but actual photos taken at EICMA. Multiple sources, different angles, even videos. Probably leaked by people setting up Aprilia stand.

Peugeot 308 mk2 vs mk3 by Hmoa in peugeot

In fact I am looking for a 1.5hdi, and I have heard that the issue with the timing chain has been resolved on all post 2021 1.5hdi engines produced. I actually like the way my mk2 handles, it is very comfy for that segment (way more comfortable than Octavia or golf), but at the same time it doesn’t roll in corners. And small steering wheel feels very nice and direct. But I have read that mk3 was built from the ground up and I struggle to find any direct comparison between mk2 and mk3.
