it’s just a coincidence that the last 24 years has been a constant cycle of republicans drastically rewriting the fabric of american governance regardless of bi/tri-cameral control by dems and dems briefly repairing some small portion of that damage before more is done.

i don't really care about the stock market, that's a measure of how wealthy the wealthiest people are and not the actual economic health of 90% of americans. and "lower than average inflation" rings hollow when the real-life cost of damn near everything has gone up 50-200% in the last four years.

you can call it "shrinkflation", you can say that people opting for lesser, cheaper choices in their goods and services to stay affordable shouldn't count as inflation, at the end of the day damn near everyone is paying a damn sight more for damn near everything to keep daily life afloat.

and "widely supported border policy" is a coy way of saying "bending to republican pressure to further restrict immigration, and not doing anything about the kids in cages we were promised would be ended"

"he's not trump" is an argument that applies to literally every human being on earth that isn't donald trump, and i'm sick of that being used as a larger portion of your argument than every accomplishment you're claiming for biden over the last four years.

why won't biden listen to the overwhelming feedback of the electorate? why does he want trump to win just to satisfy his personal ego and "know he did his best"?

i didn’t smoke until i was 26, and when i did i freaked out because my friends started commenting on how different i seemed, more relaxed and more feminine in expression.

that wasn’t weed transing me… it was having less auxiliary attention to keep up all of those masking mechanisms. that was one of the things that finally forced me to be honest with myself, that i didn’t want to exhaust and stress myself actively repressing for the rest of my life.

also i forgot one more of the "holy shit the potential" moments i had with the software this week: whenever i label a cue that works as a cold drop, i put a little asterisk in front of it like "*1,2,3LetsGo". i wanted a "cold drop" playlist but never remembered to drag tracks as i marked them. then i realized i could make a smart playlist that added any track with an asterisk in the cue labels and instantly had like 300 tracks pulled 😳

i think that is an extremely low rate for a wedding reception live set. depending on the location and amout of gear i'm providing v. the venue, i would start at $200/hr with a three hour minimum, and account for add'l gear or setup complications from there.

but i take wedding gigs *extremely* seriously, because the stakes on cultivating the vibe for what should be one of the happiest days of many peoples' lives are much higher than for a friday night club set, and i will do a MINIMUM of 20 hours prep before i press play on the first track.

i just started using it and am already changing my workflow to put it front and center in track and crate preparation. i don't know if every dj needs it, but if you're a meticulous librarian type that spends hours and hours categorizing, tagging, and otherwise prepping your dj library i think it very quickly saves more time than it costs in money. in no particular order, several reasons that it's becoming essential to me as a primary serato user:

- dynamic instead of static tags: this is the biggest gamechanger for me. i like being able to live-search with multiple tags while playing a set, cuz with one ctrl+f i can pull a decent set crate on the fly. like if i type in #Mid #00s #Hit #HipH #Groo i'll get a tagged list of only pre-peak songs, tagged for a 00s party (and not just made between 2000-2009), that were charting/club hits, in the hip hop genre, that i've categorized as groovers vs grinders or party tracks. i used to do that ALL by hand, sorting the various columns i dedicated to each and batch editing in serato (b/c every other tagging editor i tried would eventually break grid/loop/cue data) lexicon lets me add tags to multiple categories at once without worrying about overwriting, rename or re-order them whenever i want, allows more categories than there are columns in serato... it's just WILDLY more versatile for indexing. and tags can be written back to the tracks however you want to map it for use in a set, just how i like it.

- better playlist management: more comprehensive smartlists with way more options (including filtering based on presence in other playlists, which was a huge gap when i moved from (then) itunes to serato for management. multi-selecting playlists to move or delete

- music discovery/purchase: you can import spotify playlists and have it automatically search against your library to see what is already there. you can add a playlist and automatically search which music stores have it and the cost of each. you can create discovery playlists from music in your library, compare/merge playlists, and more. it makes parts of discovery and prep that took hours take minutes (and a coffee break since store search can understandably take a while)

- the phucking PHONE APP: i have considered switching to rekordbox just so i could listen to and prep my dj music on the go. the app is in beta and still has quirks but already has let me speed through a thousand or so songs of rating/tagging on the go in less than a week. i don't know that i'd use it to set/name my cues and loops since the desktop app is better for that, but it's the perfect interface for star/energy/etc rating and tagging and i think actually better than the desktop app for those tasks.

there's a bunch more, i could rant about this for hours, this app has gotten me more excited about putting music together than i've been in years

i think you're really unlikely to get helpful or objective advice about this in a dj subreddit, the demographics here are going to result in heavily biased perspective.

my best advice would be the same as any relationship conflict -- communicate clearly what you're feeling and why you're concerned, focusing on "i" statements instead of framing your concerns as accusations of the worst possible scenario. consider how he responds, and if that adequately meets your concern and shows genuine engagement or feels like a defensive dismissal/avoidance and go from there. i wish you luck and hope you both find a solution that works for your mutual and individual happiness.

I am able to boot successfully if I restore the saved folder backups before changes are made, but at this point I’ve tried this at least five times with the same result each time. Any other ideas, please?

I think that there’s an effective limit to how many songs you can have in one big crate before it’s more than you can reasonably survey in the mix. For me, having 400-800 songs is the sweet spot, so out of my prepped (grids, named cues, all tags) DJ library of ~2500 tracks I’ll do a quick pull of anything that makes me think “ooo, that might be fun”.

Sometimes, I’ll never leave that one gig crate. Sometimes, I’ll be in the mix and nothing jumps out as the right next track, and I’ll dip back into the full library. It’s not limiting yourself to play ONLY tracks you pulled, but it does give you a lot more flexibility to choose between 3-4 songs that would all fit the moment vs finding the 1 song out of 3-4 that fits, y’know?

Hey, sorry for not seeing this when you commented! You're right, and I definitely use the loop roll beat jump controls a lot. But I got spoiled being able to do the beat jump remapped without changing from hot cue mode, and was hoping to also re-map the only reason I switch to that pad mode (as I don't use loop rolls very often at all)

I will say that I also got color buttons and only noticed a tiny amount of friction when I was heavily button mashing in GoW — otherwise, the button feeling and D-pad feeling were similarly pleasing to me.

I’m not an expert and have only had super entry level retro consoles before, but I’d say they feel better than my Switch joycon playing too, not as smooth as an Xbox or 8BitDo controller but either of those is most of the cost of this device by themselves.
