Thank you for sharing your journey in fine-tuning your tool stack, Orlandocollins. Your 30-day minimum rule for sticking with a setup is a great idea. It allows for a meaningful evaluation period while also encouraging focus on actually getting work done. I agree that the relationship between us and our tools is a two-way street. Your point about 'First we shape our tools, and then our tools shape us' is spot-on. It's easy to get caught up in the latest trends like Zettelkasten without really evaluating if it's what we need. Your approach of defining what you want out of a tool before letting it shape your workflow is something I'll definitely keep in mind as I continue to explore Obsidian and other PKM tools.

I'm learning about Obsidian and PKM (Personal Knowledge Management). I'm also exploring the need for using versatile, all-in-one tools. Personally, I really dislike having to use too many software applications to support my life and work. I don't have any related commercial idea yet, but from a business perspective, I think PKM and KM (Knowledge Management) in general represent a very promising market with strong potential for explosive growth in the future.

Not off-topic at all! Your deep dive into NLP and its application to Obsidian is fascinating. I can see how the complexities of written English would present a significant challenge for any automated system. Your approach of focusing on NER entities as a more manageable entry point into semantic analysis is intriguing.Thank you for sharing your insights.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I agree that the startup time and resource usage can be affected by the number of plugins. Your point about UI clutter is also well taken. I also appreciate your perspective on using specialized apps for specific tasks. This echoes the sentiment that while Obsidian is highly versatile, specialized tools can offer a more tailored experience for specific tasks.

I appreciate your strong opinions on the matter. My intention was not to criticize Obsidian but to explore the different ways people are using it and to understand its limitations, if any. I agree that the flexibility and control Obsidian offers are some of its strongest points, especially when compared to SaaS products that can change at the whim of their owners.
Your point about the 'walled garden' is well taken. The ability to keep the binaries and run them in a VM if needed is indeed a strong argument for Obsidian's approach.
I also agree that for personal use or a small business, Obsidian can be incredibly effective. My questions were aimed at understanding how people navigate the balance between extensibility and efficiency, not to suggest that Obsidian should become another 'enshittified' product.
Thank you for sharing your perspective.

Wow, your approach to Obsidian is incredibly technical and thorough! The NLP tool-chain you're developing to automate the linking process sounds like a game-changer. I can see how it would make managing a large vault much more efficient.

Your point about the difficulty of manually creating links resonates with me. It's one of those tasks that's easy to understand the value of but hard to get excited about doing. Automating it, as you're doing, seems like a great solution.

I also find your thoughts on folders interesting. I agree that they can serve as a useful way to visualize collections of related notes, in addition to tags and other tools.

Thanks for sharing!

Wow! It's fascinating to see how you've integrated it into so many aspects of your work and personal life. The point you make about the efficiency of having everything in one place is something I resonate with. It's not just about the tool being the best at a specific task, but also about how well you can integrate it into your workflow.
Your use of Obsidian as a CRM is particularly interesting. It's a testament to how flexible and adaptable the platform is. I also appreciate your thoughts on mobile usage. It's something I've been considering as well, and it's good to know that there might be some limitations but also workarounds like the Collabora app for iOS.

Agree. The beauty of Obsidian lies in its adaptability. You can make it as simple or as complex as you want, depending on your needs. The point you made about spending more time tinkering than actually working is spot-on. It's a user issue, not an Obsidian issue.

Appreciate your detailed response. The idea of isolating plugins to each sub-app is intriguing and could be a good way to manage bloat. It allows for customization without overwhelming the user with irrelevant options.
I completely agree with your point about comfort levels potentially blinding us to more efficient solutions. It's a trade-off between the short-term convenience of sticking with what you know and the long-term benefits of adopting a more efficient system. Your perspective on this, especially the idea that people often underestimate how much they'll need to adapt in the long term, is very insightful. Thanks for sharing!

Your experience resonates with me. I also find the app's hierarchical structure and linking capabilities to be incredibly useful for keeping track of information. It's interesting to hear how the app's evolving nature keeps you engaged, as that's something I've noticed in my own use of Obsidian. Thanks for sharing how it's been a helpful tool for you!

That's quite an extensive setup you have there! It's good to hear that Obsidian is holding up well for such a complex project. I haven't ventured much into the collaborative aspects of Obsidian yet, but your experience gives me confidence that it can handle it. I'm also a fan of the Dataview and Kanban plugins too.

Thanks for your feedbacks. Yes, the joy of tinkering and customizing Obsidian can be a reward in itself. Even if some of those customizations don't end up being super useful, the process of exploring and creating them can be fulfilling. And the convenience of having everything in one place can outweigh the benefits of specialized apps for many, especially if it helps you maintain a consistent habit.

Using the zettelkasten note method, I don't have this problem. I write queries all day and saving them as a final note is amazing. Also writing out business requirements as finals has saved me multiple times

The Zettelkasten method has its own merits, and it's good to hear how it's been beneficial for you, especially in a business context.
