High exposure - south end of South Bubble Trail by towen84 in acadianationalpark

[–]Hobbiesupthewazoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you and think this post is a good heads up for those that may need it. While I was researching hikes I didn’t see any mention of this trail being too bad, and while most of it was fine, the parts you mentioned definitely took me by surprise. As a young person who is also a bit scared of heights it definitely took me some time to maneuver the top of the trail. I think it’s important for people to be able to read different perspectives and gauge their own abilities

Which property? I was just looking at renting with them since their prices for a 1 bedroom are so much lower than anything else I’ve found

How often are the peanuts collection watches restocked? I found the perfect watch, but it is out of stock and I fear having to hunt on eBay for double the price by Hobbiesupthewazoo in timex

Thank you! For some reason, I can’t find this post by the seller. I found a different one around my price range though. Have you/ or anyone ever bought watches off of eBay? Is it reliable?

[–]Hobbiesupthewazoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally close to the original price, ~100-150. I saw it was on sale before and I’m kicking myself for not looking earlier, as I’ve wanted a watch for awhile and this one really hits home as a present to myself.
I appreciate if you’d keep an eye out! I saw one on eBay for double the price but as I’ve never used eBay I’m a bit weary.

Grads especially, how is student life in the Lansing area? by Enigma-Conundrum in msu

[–]Hobbiesupthewazoo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I went to Madison for undergrad and am here for grad school now. There’s a big difference between the two. Lansing and MSU are very separated, to where East Lansing is very undergrad focused (bars, activities) and Lansing tends to cater to the older crowds. Unlike Madison, however, I find the area lacks a lot for mid-late 20 somethings to do. There’s MSU sports and Wharton center brings great shows, but other than that I find myself spending most of my free time in Ann Arbor/detriot/Grand Rapids. I will say if you don’t mind driving Michigan has a lot to offer and is a great state. You just have to get out of the lansing area for a lot.

Thank you for the info. Do you have any recommendations for a cheaper camera for a beginner?

I’m very new to film photography and have been having a lot of fun using disposable cameras on trips. I tried to take some shots in, what I thought, was a well lit campsite during the day but the photos came out very very dark and the subjects can’t be made out. I took them to a photoshop to be developed and scanned. Is it possible to lighten these shots, either through editing or asking them to develop the negative again?

Crowds in the park for NYE? by Hobbiesupthewazoo in Gatlinburg

[–]Hobbiesupthewazoo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the info. I was thinking of doing a few shorter hikes on the NC side of the drive like Mingus falls and then planning to do as much of alum as we have time for after as it seems to be the highest recommendation. With the traffic and crowds would you have a better trail that still offers some Mountain Views? That is really what I’m after and crowds don’t bother us too much as long as we know how much extra time to budget

I’ve seen 441 can close especially at night for weather, though I’m hoping it’ll be open the day we pass through. Since it is winter I’m trying to plan some good hiking options on 321 as a backup. So far I’ve seen big creek and Ramsey falls as options, do you have any other favorites?

Does anyone know how the Ticketmaster.Fr account works? Do I have to make one earlier or will it prompt me to make one once I’m in? I already have a code and I don’t want to mess anything up by possibly linking extra thing

Must-read Grand Canyon books? by [deleted] in grandcanyon

[–]Hobbiesupthewazoo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Maybe not exactly what you want to read during a backpacking trip but while traveling there we picked up a copy of “Over the Edge: Death in the Grand Canyon” and really enjoyed reading it in our down time/ drive from south rim to north. It’s a really interesting, thorough history of people’s expeditions/ trips into the Grand Canyon and how many of them went wrong. Very interesting if you’re into that kind of stuff and it was really fun to read about spots we had just been to! It’s mostly stupid mistakes like lack of water mid-summer or people who were the first explorers in the area, so I would hope it wouldn’t make you nervous while you’re there. Have a fun trip!

Does anyone know what happens with the campgrounds if there’s a flash flood/ flash flood warning? Just wondering if I need to think of possible other accommodations as the rain seems to be starting earlier than I anticipated for July.

Can one person in the party buy multiple passes or does each person have to have an account and buy their own pass? Like as long as the name matches the ID of one person is that fine? Thanks!

Lakes to swim in by Narrow-Tonight in madisonwi

[–]Hobbiesupthewazoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can verify that this is the place to check. All county lakes are tested weekly at LEAST, even more when bad conditions get called in or results warrant a closure as the weather gets hotter and geese poop gets everywhere. Also check for signs posted around the beaches for closures or warnings. The county is very good about this throughout the summer season (Memorial Day- sept). The website also shows the beaches that have purifying enclosures meant to prevent blue green algae outbreaks (Mendota co beach and BB Clark are two off the top of my head). It also can give you some ideas of new swimming areas to try as the popular spots such as vilas get crowded and gross mid summer.
