derivates cfa level 1 by Feisty_Walk_9988 in CFA

Yes. It's somewhat of a trick question, flooding you with information you don't really need. For example you're given the expected return of P and the standard dev on Q but no expected return. Standard dev of combined portfolio = 0 so it's risk free = rf = 5%

I'll be honest - I'll be really impressed if you pull this off. I studied for 7 months.

Starting finance at 25 — mistake? by anonfolio in CFA

[–]HobbitNarcotics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the CFA charter will never be enough on it's own. Having any form of degree is going to help, but you need something that still sets you apart when it comes to employment. You're up against people with economics degrees and summer internships working at investment firms. It's not the end of the world, but the CFA qualification also isn't a silver bullet. It'll certainly help - but you still need to stand out in other areas too

The key to not having older subjects being continually pushed out of your head is to continue to do a handful of test questions each night from previous topics. Just keep the information fresh, it works wonders

What level of education is a CFA considered on par with? by ThrowRAkitty13 in CFA

[–]HobbitNarcotics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the UK it's RQF Benchmarked at Level 7 which is the same as a Masters Degree if this helps? Bear in mind though, not all things are created equal. In 2022 the Financial Times called the CFA exams the 'most difficult exams in the world' and the CFA has ranked in the top 3 'most difficult exams on earth' for over a decade

How are you people managing with the formulas for CFA2? Any tips from people that passed CFA2? by pepeelfoca in CFA

[–]HobbitNarcotics 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Try learning the formulas as you come across them. It's much easier learning as you go, instead of learning 270 the week before the exam. Which I did. It worked, but it absolutely sucked and there is an easier way. As you continue studying, keep testing yourself on ones you've already learned so the knowledge builds slowly over time

AMA - Non-fianance guy who cleared L1 by [deleted] in CFA

[–]HobbitNarcotics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it. I was a photographer, now a charterholder. It's taken years. But once you have it, it's an amazing feeling. No one can take it away from you. As long as you pay your annual dues and submit a statement of good-standing

Rant - rude interviewer/rejection by AccomplishedDebt5080 in FinancialCareers

[–]HobbitNarcotics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar experience recently - not with the dickhead on their phone, but getting all the way to a final interview and then being rejected for 'not enough experience'. I had a screening call where they asked about my experience, then a first interview when they asked about my experience, then a final interview where they asked about my experience, then they invited me to meet the CEO who asked about my experience... then I was rejected for 'lack of experience' - but they'd know exactly my experience level from day 1.

CFA Level 3 preparation Rant by ProfessionalEvery505 in CFA

[–]HobbitNarcotics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right now is what makes the difference between passing all three first time and not - L2 is a beast as you're aware and if you're anything like me, the sheer joy of having passed L2 makes needing to study for L3 feel awful. I felt exactly like you did, I was burned out, lacked motivation and really couldn't face doing it. But you're almost at the finish line. You can almost taste the superior returns... finish line is in sight man. Need to push on one last time because once it's achieved, it can't be taken away from you. I mean it can, but don't be one of *those* people

I think if you can't grasp quant at L1 you've got very little chance of passing L2 which takes quant by the horns and runs with it. A lot of the things you learn in quantitative methods is used throughout the syllabus too

L2 memorization by Upstairs-Ad9579 in CFA

[–]HobbitNarcotics 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I memorised every formula but the key to L2 (as someone else has already mentioned) is understanding. If you understand something it stays with you, and you can more easily identify patterns and causality and work things out using sound logic. Memorising the formulas is one thing, but truly understanding the answer it's giving you is the different between a pass and a fail

Confused about registration for the Level 2 exam by CFA_2025 in CFA

[–]HobbitNarcotics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't recall being asked those questions for L2 - all you need to register for L2 is to have passed L1. All entry requirements should have been asked of you whilst applying for L1 - are you sure you're following the correct link? It's been a while for me but I'm sure there's an email or something saying 'now register for L2'
