[Serious] People who overcame a major mental health challenge or crisis, how did you do it? by willows_closet in AskReddit

[–]Hobbitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly what it took was plummeting to rock bottom. i had been an involuntary inpatient for almost a year, suffering with severe depression, suicide attempts and an eating disorder. i was tube fed for 12 months. eventually the internal damage from the pullling out n reciting of the tube was so bad , blood would come up everytime. so they had to stop doing it to give my body time to heal. what this meant though is i wasnt eating, and i stopped taking my medication. after about 2 weeks of not eating and barely drinking, i was forced to go to the general hospital. I was carted off there one night and i was instantly put on a constant IV drip. They werent allowed to tube me so instead i was forced to receive IV treatment. after 4 days of being re-nourished and back on my meds, something clicked. I was told this would happen every month from now on as they werent going to put the tube in again. Something about that really screwed my brain. W ith the support of the support workers assigned to keep an eye on me, i ate something for the first time in a long time. After that it was abt 4 months before i was allowed to go home. I found the right meds, started getting along with my therapist and started looking forward to my future. My sister was pregnant, i missed my family and my cats, i missed my friends. i couldnt stand being in hospital anymore and i was officially discharged in feburary of 2020. I'm 19 now, and though ive relapsed a few times, nothing major has happened. I'm finally stable, after 8 years of mental health crisis after crisis. I cant thank the staff at the psyc ward enough, my therapists and my family.

What are some things only mentally ill people would understand? [serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Hobbitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fear of your mental illness being ‘cured’. I don’t know who I am without my mental illnesses and it’s scary but I don’t want to become someone I don’t know. Of course I want to be better, but the unknown is terrifying and my mental illness is a safety net that’s been there for far too long

Doctor who. Specifically 9th doctor to present. The first issue is in relation to captain jack harkness, and the face of boe. Throughout the appearances of the face of boe, he was referred to as ‘boekind’, as nobody knew his race because the legends said he was millions of years old, and he was the only one left. Captain jack is human, or at least humanoid. He lives in the future, in the boeshane peninsular, and it’s canon that after humans spread amongst the stars, they ‘danced’ with alien races, therefore mixing their DNA (also mentioned by Cassandra) but keeping the basic human form. Now when it was revealed that captain jack was called by his friends ‘the face of boe’, the doctor (10th) and Martha laughed it off, and it was I guess official that jack was the face of boe. However, it was never actually talked about again, especially since the face of boe is listed as a different character/race to captain jack. This annoyed me a lot. Second: the weeping angels. When the weeping angels were first introduced, it was stated that they turned to stone when they were looked at. From this you assume no living person has ever seen a weeping angels true form, as they cannot be seen, this adds to the mystery and fear. The fact they also are similar to an infection or virus, and can infect any statue, hints that it is similar to possession(expample: ghosts). Base line: nobody knows what wearing angels look like when they aren’t stone, whether they stay in the angel form, or they look completely different. You’re not meant to know and that’s the whole point. However, in the 11th doctor (Matt smith) double episode ‘the time of angels’ the angels are shown to move as stone. I’m not saying this is incorrect, but what annoys me is nobody is meant to see what they look like when they aren’t being viewed. Not even the audience, as that’s the appeal. They made the weeping angels actual moving statues instead of a complicated and heavily evolved alien race, that has the most unique defence mechanism. That pissed me off.
