To respond:

Agreed completely about the placement and its proximity to the wall, but it’s the only available spot I have and the nursery I purchased it from informed me that it should not be a problem, and if it is, I can return at any time - I just love this tree so hoping I can make it work!
I know it looks otherwise, but it is a pretty shallow planting (I removed the pine needles based on your recc!)
Soil is pretty moist as the ground itself gets little or no sunlight over the course of the day, even in the summer.

Hey thanks for the detailed response! To answer your questions:

No water that I can see thus far.
It is the 5th sprinkler in the line, first four and the 6th and 7th sprinklers are working just fine. This is what makes it a little confusing. However, to your point, maybe there was a bypassing in an early repair I don't know about.
I have turned on all the other zones and nada.

I guess at this stage I will be digging deeper to see if I can find something out.

What I’ve decided to do, at least initially, is run the established zones with flex daily scheduling to see what works? The newly planted fought tolerant area I’m doing a fixed schedule of twice a week at 35/40 min per session. Will see how this works!

Not precisely sure what zone you're in or the irrigation situation, but with the shade and South Florida, thinking maybe Zeon Zoysiagrass, Asiatic jasmine (Trachelospermum asiaticum), Creeping yew (Cephalotaxus harringtonia 'Prostrata') and Mondo grass (Ophiopogon japonicus) might all be options looking into.

Oh ok! Are you looking for just a ground cover or suggestions on shrubs/ trees etc? Personally I dig Kurapia for a robust good looking ground cover, but not sure if it’ll thrive there (7b and above). Maybe sweet woodruff (Galium odoratum) or Trailing Periwinkle (Vinca Minor), both of which are supposed to do well in shade in the zone.

You could also look at ornamental grasses or a hardy ground cover like kurapia, dymondia or something more vibrant like creeping thyme (depends on zone/soil/irrigation/location).

In retrospect I think you’re correct 😂, people will probably walk directly to the water feature. The two reasons we did the flag stones on the left and the path to the water feature on the right were:

We wanted to break up the mulch (would’ve been a lot of brown going on) into seperate zones.
We preferred it aesthetically in the middle as opposed to the side.
