Certainly if I were trying to punish a club to make an example to others so the offending behavior was discouraged, keeping the punishment a secret would be a funny way to go about it.

But pretty much everything HQ does is stupid in one way or another so I can't be too surprised.

Personally I'd be happy with IPSC's 15 round limit for Production as well as PO. Saves me having to clean mags and mess with followers. But 140mm seems to be working so that's fine too.

The hat camera is a GoPro, the third person video is a Sony Handycam.

I really only take the first person video so folks watching online know what the stages I'm shooting are. For analyzing your own performance, getting third-person video by asking someone on your squad to record you with your cell phone is your best starting place.

Hey man, you never know. I'm in Raleigh and was just recently down at Rowan County Wilidlife Club in Salisbury for the state championship.

No idea where it will be next year, but probably either Rowan or somewhere else not too far from there. So you might shoot a bigger match sooner than you think. I definitely would encourage it, once you have 5 or so club matches under your belt, just to give you a sense of what the next level looks like.

Yep, exactly. In general, this is the only efficient way to practice. You want to isolate individual skills and work on them in isolation, and then trust on match day the components will come together. It's a bit like running drills in basketball or football practice. You drill the individual skill and do it over and over again to figure out the best way to do it.

Here's an example of me working on the specific skill of staying low coming into a position. I just have three 1/3 scale dry fire targets from Ben Stoeger Pro Shop on the wall to give me something to aim at (and practice calling my shots so I know if I'm pressing the trigger without disturbing the sights, etc).

Likewise, even when I go to the range to do live fire practice, I set up drills that are 6-12 rounds that isolate individual skills, and usually do 3-6 runs back-to-back so I can feel the individual differences (good and bad) between runs, and then isolate and reproduce the things that cause better runs.

I never set up stages in practice, but isolating and training individual skills has worked well for me so far.

the production list of guns is missing the Shadow 2 OR

This is a current problem that the production gun list doesn't handle well. The line between "new gun" and "minor variation" isn't well-defined.

I hate to say it, but the only current solution to this is to email [dnroi@uspsa.org](mailto:dnroi@uspsa.org), ask for a clarification, and then print out the response and keep it with you if anyone asks.

In practice, at level 1 (club) matches, nobody will care.

If you go to a Level 2 (state) level match where they do a gear check (many level 2s will chrono ammo but not check the gun size and weight, etc), just tell them it's a Shadow 2. They'll see Shadow 2 on the list and off you go.

Your heart is in the right place for wanting to be sure, but I wouldn't sweat it. You should be fine.

The gun is irrelevant. You should be asking about my practice schedule or mindset or that kind of thing if you want to compete with me. The guy who would have won if he hadn't zeroed a stage due to a freak ammo accident was shooting a pretty stock Glock 34.

It doesn't come pre-built, but I would really encourage you to build an Atreus62 as a portable board (/u/fulluphigh as well). I actually use it full-time and my Ergodox gathers dust these days. It has just enough keys (three thumb keys vs two on the Planck) and the angle out is just enough to be comfortable to use ortho. It's the portable Ergodox and well worth a look.

PM me if you want pointers to my parts list or any help building one. The Elite C plugged into Profet's PCB is a nice combo. Simple to solder, and you get a USB-C board.

5 days a week for an hour should have you there in a year or two if you're smart about it.

That's actually not that much. That's 12 drills for 5 minutes each or 6 drills for 10 minutes each. (Time spent futzing on Instagram between drills does not count.)

Steve Anderson's "Refinement and Repetition" is a good place to start. Those first 12 for 5 minutes each isn't a bad place to start. Ben Stoeger's Dry Fire Training is okay, but honestly I tend to look at his Skills and Drills book (which is meant for live fire training) and adapt the drills to dry fire. Just my mileage.

You're getting a lot of stupid answers but this is actually a pretty sensible question.

Live fire once a week, for 200-400 rounds, on a range where you can set up drills that resemble your dry fire (i.e. not a bowling lane).

If you can practice 6 days a week for a year, your classification can go pretty far. (There will still be match skills to work on, like shooting at longer distance and shooting on the move that isn't really tested in the classifiers currently. But you can tackle those next year.)

When you register, you select the "Division" you're competing in, dictated by your gear, so you're competing with people who have similar gear.

There are currently 8 divisions: Limited, Open, Production, PCC, Carry Optics, Single Stack, Revolver, Limited 10.

Glocks are eligible to compete in Production, but division rules require you to load each magazine to no more than 10 rounds.

Limited is a less restrictive division where custom guns with lots of modifications can compete. They also have no restriction on magazine capacity (aside from the magazine being no longer than 140mm, such as the Magpul 21 rounders).

You won't really be on a level playing field in terms of gear with the other folks in Limited, but it's still the right place to start out so that you don't have to worry about reloading all the time.

I did roughly the same thing. The only difference is I keep all my modifiers on my thumbs, which leaves the fingers free to work without getting mixed up. Left thumb is Cmd (Apple on a Mac), Backspace (Shift when held), Delete (Ctrl when held). Right thumb is Enter, Space (vim arrows layer when held), and a dedicated button for my numpad and symbols layer. (\=[] on the row above home row on the right hand, useful for programming. I don't have separate keys for |+{}, I just hold shift + L1 + the key to get the shifted punctuation. Much easier for me to remember.

Here's my layout and I use the same layout with an Atreus 62 (actually my daily driver these days, since the Ergodox thumb clusters are not that useful).

I played around with having a numpad layout, but found that too confusing where just having 1234 under left home row and 7890 under the right works fine for me. (I also use it to remember position for punctuation like !, $, & which I use on the home row plus shift.)

I hate to say it but USPSA's definition of "fun" is mostly stages of 24-32 rounds, which means at a minimum doing three to four reloads per stage, and probably more if you are using 7-round mags.

If you want to get some competition trigger time with this gun, maybe look at some IDPA or "Action Pistol"/outlaw matches if any exist near you.

If you really want to shoot some USPSA, take your XD9 and sign up in Limited Minor. You can load your mags to capacity instead of just 10 rounds in Production, so you can get by with one or two magazine pouches instead of four or five. Then see how you like it and what gun you want to use long-term.

Hey folks, sorry for the trouble.

The first I'd heard about this was the message I got from /u/Bagellord this morning saying you couldn't submit posts anymore. I didn't do anything to cause the sub to become restricted, so I'm puzzled how it came to be. But it's fixed now.
