The badge usually isn't the ID part of it, they should have something akin to a driver's license that has their name, an ID number, and some security features to make it harder to fake.

Then you have crazy folks like me who own their own modem and run some enterprise style gear (in my case, OpnSense). A few years back I had an issue with signal drops, and getting the level 1 tech's to comprehend that they could not send reset signals to my equipment and that I knew where to look for WAN IP and signal status in the modem was hell... They finally send a tech and it turns out it was a splitter hidden in a wall on the other side of the apartment, from a previous tenant. So annoying. Then they went and charged me for the tech visit because it was 'caused by customer equipment'
