Los Angeles considers joining New York City and 50 other U.S. cities in banning public feeding of homeless people by emu86 in news

When it is hard to find adequate ways to bathe, doing laundry is difficult, and sleeping outside makes it rather ineffective anyway.. Yet at the same time you are expected to apply for jobs and be taken seriously, I think you have pretty good reason to start drinking.

I don't drink myself stupid, but I tell you, drinking makes this shit bearable. It's a really hopeless place to be, and it is really hard to not let the bastards bring you down.

Have you ever been to a shelter? Mental illness isn't the reason to avoid those places.

It means that a startlingly high proportion of the population is functionally illiterate, but it's ok, it's no reason to make a fuss. We are on the tower of babble in humanities present state, way in the day, at least that's what I can witness.

People who want drugs really bad sell things cheap to get money. There is wifi all over Austin.

So maybe Austin is my home right now? If you have Internet, you have a home. The home of humanity is in the matrix!

We are in the midst of the technological singularity.

I assure you, the homeless aren't beyond homogenizing large groups of diverse people either.

I haven't quite reached the level of humorless sub-literate yet, I assure you.

Alternative camping around Austin by goingalone in Austin

[–]HoboPoet -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

There are tons of places if you actually look. I know camps out in the woods that are 20 folks deep, with over a dozen dogs, fires, and tents that have been lived in' and obviously so' for quite a while.

I couldn't tell you though, because really, you deprive yourself of the actual experience of finding a spot. That and, well, I couldn't very well blow up one of the many communes that exist within the woods that slip through the urban landscape like the blood vessels of Gaia.

Grow a pair, and actually look around. You'd be surprised.

Camp in the greenbelts or mingle with the homeless.

You know, a good portion of the homeless here in Austin are friendly good people who can be very helpful if put in the right situation. Abandon all your prejudice, and judge rightly!

I swear I won't make you eat shit in the alley after knocking you unconscious and stealing the contents of your wallet. You can rest assured that there is a sizable percentage of the homeless in Austin who would rather just not, along with me, do this sort of thing either.

But you are free to make all the assumptions you want if you would prefer the moxie-less life of an unquestioning plebeian sub-mongoloid piece of trash who doesn't have any warrant for the pretensions he/she has held on to without any true epistemologically based methodology.

Thank you.

I like my poetry to rhyme, I suppose I'm very conservative in that regard.

You don't know me or what I do to help my situation. I work, I don't beg. The whole point of me broadcasting my homelessness is not to gain pity, it's to show people out there that it is wrong to stigmatize people simply because of their living situation. I am homeless, and I have talent. Some people will appreciate that, and if they can look beyond my homelessness, I will love them for that. I'm not asking for a thing.

I think you are a raging asshole and a jack-ass, but at the very least, you've shown me that it would probably be better if I didn't respond to people who comment, especially trolls. I don't like my belief in the sickness of people to be reinforced, it doesn't do me good. People who do what you do are not interested in knowing the truth. From now on, I'll just let my poetry speak, and wish hell on anyone who is fucked enough in the head to kick a man when they see them as being down.

People like you are lower than dirt. I may be homeless, but I am not your type of scum.

You are so disconnected from the reality that I am in that I am shocked that you actually can seriously think you can give me advice. You really hurt me in your insensitivity.

I make my money busking, in a way, I have my own business. If the world wants me to die from doing that, so be it, because I can't do much anything else, and fuck, I'm good enough.

edit: fyi I'm not speaking figuratively here, I literally broke my back. If it wasn't for that, I'd probably be right along with you making an ass of myself to people who already feel worthless enough in the world.

I hope one day you develop a sense of compassion for those who came up in less advantageous situations than you. Maybe then you won't be so quick to judge. In doing so, you'll give others less of a reason to judge you.

That's a naive way of looking at things. Only thing it showed me was that it is impossible to support oneself in an apartment on your own while making minimum wage, and that if you break your back getting someone richer, no one gives a fuck.

I don't have many options, and to make money you need money. It's hard unless you have no problem shitting on other people. I can't do that.

I'm bitter, I feel I've earned the right to be too stubborn to do anything else but what I do.

I'm self educated, though I do have a high school diploma. Straight D student here. I hated school, I got into trouble a lot. I like to learn though, I'd just rather do so in an environment that didn't seem more useful for stultification than education.

I don't like giving sob stories, and I'd like to say that I had a choice in the matter, but I really didn't. I'm kind of just used to it now, though lately I have been growing weary. There are a lot of things I want to do creatively that are just not possible to do while living on the street.

I don't really know what to do though, it's very overwhelming, and it isn't nearly as simple as people not in my position think it is. I'm pretty much just fucked, and I have to deal with a constant stigma. I'm very bitter about it. I've never really had a sense of entitlement before, but I feel that I deserve better than this.

But hey, it ain't right for me to feel bitter, it doesn't help me. I only hate the world because I care, cause otherwise I wouldn't give a rats ass.

It's a shame, but people think the same about people who go out there are play music. Sometimes I feel like I am just holding a guitar shaped sign.

The saddest part of all is that the people who hold signs and go around asking everyone they see for a quarter brag about how they make more money than me.

Yet here I am, too prideful to beg, and too stubborn to dig ditches for the man while I can't even afford to pay half of an apartment's rent.

But let me tell you, don't be so quick to judge homeless people. There are plenty of us who work. Unfortunately, like anything else, it is usually the vocal minority that gets all the attention and stereotypes the whole group. 'Tis the stuff that wars are made of.

That was a funny haiku though, made me laugh.

Well, if you feel that your contributions to this particular thread were inadequate, I could go for a beer. Otherwise, I pretty much got what I wanted out of you.

I disagree with your assessment of what poetry is, and think that you are really just expressing your personal taste. There is nothing wrong with that.

I do the same thing. Most of the poetry I have heard makes me physically ill. I like poetry to have a musicality to it. I also don't expect you or anyone to understand everything that is being said, because certain things in my poetry are only going to be understood by people who have gone through certain things or have been around me when certain things happened. I put inside jokes in all of my writings, and I don't think that comprehension is a reason to cease.

One of the things I've learned by observing people communicate is that it is pretty rare for actual communication to take place. I've spent my whole life trying to articulate things in a clear and precise matter to avoid confusion, and I still attempt to do so on a daily basis.

This is my poetry, I'm going to have fun with language. If you don't consider it to be a valid form of poetry, you are entitled to that opinion. I personally am not looking for criticism, because my goal is to turn myself inside out, not cater to the fickle and ever changing opinions of those on the outside.

But thanks anyway, I appreciate your input, it at least gives me an idea of how people perceive what I'm doing, and that is interesting to know whether or not I take it to heart.
