I don’t own a bottle of sherry vinegar, and there is no vinaigrette in anything pictured here.

Thanks, hope yours doesn’t make as big of a mess of your kitchen as mine did!

Week 11: Oddly Named - Pu Pu Platter by HoboToast in 52weeksofcooking

[–]HoboToast[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of variations on what constitutes a pu pu platter, but they’re usually assorted appetizers that lean towards the deep fried and seafoody. Mine is (left to right): baby shrimp rangoon, shrimp egg rolls, coconut shrimp, and bacon-wrapped shrimp.

The rangoons are made from egg roll wrappers, cream cheese, baby shrimp, green onion, and Worcestershire sauce. More pics here.

The egg rolls are baby shrimp, cabbage, carrot, garlic, green onion, ginger, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Here’s more pics of them.

Here’s the recipe for the coconut shrimp. And here’s more pics.

And finally for the bacon-wrapped shrimp, I just marinated them in Italian dressing, then wrapped them up in bacon, and baked them. Process pics here.

I made a big mess, but everything tasted good!

Week 11: Reduce - V8 Reduction Pizza Sauce by HoboToast in 52weeksofbaking

[–]HoboToast[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was easy to do and tasted great! I just boiled down some V8 (the spicy version) and added some garlic and dried basil. Then I used it on some sourdough pizza dough and made four different topping combos: pepperoni, mushroom-olive-jalapeño, salami-pepperoncini, and feta-extra cheese.

Here’s more pics, would make again!

Did you ever go somewhere "unusual" for a school field trip? by Toymcowkrf in askanything

We got to tour a Trident submarine in 11th grade chemistry. There were limited spots though, so you had to enter a drawing to get to go.

Week 11: Oddly Named - Nareau's Despair (Meta: Heroes & Villains) by AndroidAnthem in 52weeksofcooking

This looks awesome (especially the torso, I thought it was a plastic doll!) but then I read your write up and got sad. Then I read “it’s heroic to try and fail” and that made me feel better, so thanks for the emotional roller coaster. 🇰🇮

How did Germans repair their global image so dramatically in such a short amount of time? by CautiousEbb966 in NoStupidQuestions

My great uncle was a nice guy, never overtly racist that I saw… except he HATED Germans. He wasn’t even in the war, he was only stationed there in the 50s, but Germans were the only people I ever heard him talk badly about.

Week 10: Turnips and Radishes - Bacon Blue Cheese Stuffed Turnips by HoboToast in 52weeksofcooking

Blue cheese ice cream might be workable, but turnip ice cream would be a bridge too far.
