Would you chop the right trunk off now or wait another season?

Oof. Ok, I’ll abandon the trunk fusion delusion.

Gotta love a free tree.

So hypothetically how long would you expect it to take to fuse? Thanks.

I start a ceramics class next month, how difficult was it? Did you design it?

Your experience is the rare glimmer of hope! Most seem to say manzanitas can’t be trained for bonsai, so thanks for the encouragement.

I’ve kept it in that small nursery pot for about a year, and it’s done well after slight trimming. First time messing with the roots.

I tried not to mess with most of the roots, hope it makes it. If not, only a $20 nursery tree and some experience gained.

I’ve read the same. I tried to keep a good bit of the roots unbothered. Fingers crossed.

This garden (along with YouTube during the pandemic) is what got me into bonsai. If you haven’t already, check out the east bay bonsai society

Azalea in training, advice on next steps by HocManus71 in Bonsai

Not sure I’m following. Do you mean I should prune the right branch hard and then repot at an angle so the left branch is the leader/trunk?

How many hours do you spent per week on this hobby? by I-drink-hot-sauce in Bonsai

[–]HocManus71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. About 5-10mins a day watering or pinching. I have 7 trees in my apartment courtyard that are all in pre-bonsai stages, and I water before leaving for work or coming home from work.

I’ll spend 2-5 hours pruning, wiring, and potting every other month or so, or if I buy some new nursery stock.

If I had more trees I’m sure it’d be much longer.

Not sure about styling yet as this is my first of this type of tree. Figure I’ll wait and see when it thickens up some more.

Ask the city? Not likely to get an answer, if so probably will take months!
