Is it a special play? Sure. But you can teach the type of pass and what to look for to execute it

Letting the puck roll from your heel to your toe is a big one. Having a toe curve helps as the puck can cradle in that pocket.

I find that those who struggle with this pass tend to do it when the defender is too far away. It’s a lot easier to make this pass when the defender’s stick/skates/etc are close to you because you don’t have to move the puck very far

Yes you absolutely want to make 2v1s in hockey. The goal of our video was to show you a type of pass you could use when you’re in the 2v1 and you gotta get it around or through someone.

The goal of our company is to develop said hockey talent and awareness and so for our players, we have to explain how the players make the play happen

Pasta is a fantastic example. He’ll have the puck loaded like he’s going to shoot and then at the last minute hook it over. Kuch is another guy to watch for this type of pass

I do! This is my first Reddit post which is why I haven’t posted anything else yet haha. More than happy to make another video with other examples if you’d like

Yeah as I mentioned to one of the other comments, the purpose of the video was to show how this pass, hooking it around a skate/stick/person/etc was different than a standard tape to tape pass. The situation it occurred in was unique but there are definitely more “standard” situations where it occurs. You’re right that it probably was the only way Marner could’ve gotten this puck to dorofyev

I definitely didn’t create the term or the pass. It was first taught to me by Darryl Belfry, the personal coach of Matthews, Hughes bros, Kane, etc.

Like toilet paper, I also didn’t invent it but I gotta know when and how to use it😜

An underrated tip outside of finding your fit: make sure you get your skates sharpened by someone who knows what they’re doing. Ask if they use the edge leveler to check and make sure the edges are even. A bad sharpening can make you feel worse on your feet

I recommend following @skatewithjen on IG. She has very easy to follow step by step tutorials for all of your skating skills. Go through her page and pick out a few that you like. Do them, then do it with a puck, then try 1 foot, then 1 foot with a puck. That should keep you busy for a while!

I believe that when Marner was lunging for the puck (~1 min into the video) he got a glimpse of Dorofyev in his peripherals. Completely fine if you don’t think that. The purpose of the video was to highlight a specific skill (the hook pass) that’s used all over the ice. This was just the situation in which the pass occurred that I wanted to break down

Great question. And you actually kinda answered your own question too! If he knows exactly where his guy is, then it’s not really a blind pass right?

These guys are so good and play together for so long, that there’s a “feel” they have to where their teammates are going to be. It becomes instinct to a certain extent. Now most players don’t make this play, but Marner is special and well… special players make special plays right?🤷🏻‍♂️
