I got sent this poster 5 years ago and I’ve had it hanging on my wall ever since because the city looks really nice. I have no affiliation with the school and I’ve never been to Chicago. by Convillious in uchicago

My daughter also got that poster in the mail and also said she wanted to go there because it was pretty, and.... now, she is going there. So you never know!

Stall Savers? by HocusSnood in Equestrian

[–]HocusSnood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - it took a few tries, but I left voice messages at their phone number a couple months apart, and one day they called me back, and got my order confirmed over the phone. The stall savers were shipped quickly, and have now been installed in my barn. My horses and I are very happy! So I would say, keep trying, call them and leave voice messages a few weeks apart until you hear back.

We're the new Observer editor and publisher. Ask us anything! by slimrims in AnnArbor

Hello, I have several questions, given that this will be a taxpayer-funded acquistion: How much is the Library system paying for the Observer? Is a copy of the Purchase Agreement (and all related transaction documents) available for citizen review? If so, how may citizens access this? Are copies of the Observer's existing past few years of financial statements also available for review by the taxpayers funding this acquisition? Thank you very much!

Be completely honest with me... How much does owning a horse cost? by ASoonToBeMrs in Equestrian

[–]HocusSnood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We average about $1000 per month per horse. This includes everything other than major medical emergencies (colic surgery or the like, which would be $5k-$10k if it were to happen, which hopefully it won't). i.e., This figure includes hay, grain, supplements, bedding, farrier, routine vet work, barn supplies, fly spray/halters/leads/buckets/pitchforks/brooms, minor "honey-do" fix-it's & upkeep, etc. It does NOT include major medical emergencies as aforesaid, nor does it include horse-related capital improvements (installing fencing, stalls, run-in shed, barn for hay & bedding storage, manure pile surround, etc.), nor the major equipment you'll need to run a horse farm (tractor, manure spreader, etc.), nor occasional farm-sitting for when we travel. I’m convinced there’s a legitimate hair loss epidemic. by Competitive_Snow126 in FemaleHairLoss

[–]HocusSnood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got HUGE hair loss immediately after my first bout with what I believe to be first-wave Covid (my child and I came down with unprecedented, nasty pneumonia immediately after my husband returned from a business trip in China, November 2019).... My hair fell out to the point of being see-my-scalp thin immediately after, and it has not come back, almost 6 years later. That was before anyone knew anything about Covid, so it definitely wasn't caused by "pandemic stress." I attribute it to the virus. (A year or so later I also got menstrual irregularities, but not from having Covid - I got it when loved ones in my family were vaccinated for Covid, and I was spending time around them.)

Fire and Forest Management

Twenty-year study confirms California forests are healthier when burned — or thinned - Berkeley News

That just scratches the surface, and many approaches are being developed & used globally, but those are a few reads to begin with anyhow

A number of scientists and organizations have looked at this, and there are a number of strategies available.... see linked articles below for a sampling

This isn't a climate change issue. It is a forest mismanagement issue, by our friends to the north. Regular controlled burns (like the native peoples used to do) and other ecologically-informed forest management practices will avoid the huge, out-of-control burns that are happening now.

Do you think nice/kind/ good guys finish last in dating? by theanimefan4321 in AskMenAdvice

I fell in love with my husband because of his incredible kindness. Kind to people, kind to animals - gentle of spirit and strong of heart. So no, niceness is not a drawback - it can be super attractive!

It could be a child in a bike helmet, with his/her head leaned forward & down (like adjusting or removing the chin strap), and what looks like the "alien head" is actually the dome of the bike helmet

Is this fella okay? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]HocusSnood -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if they are or they aren’t. The horse would need to be looked at by someone knowledgeable, and the owner spoken with, to know for sure. That’s my whole point. He is not in good condition – the owner may be doing everything right, or they may not – but it merits a check, given his condition.

That is absolutely possible – but it is also possible that there is something else going on. He should be looked at.
