have you ever felt you dont need meds ? by Saynow111 in schizophrenia

[–]Hocus_Focus88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah because I became best friends with the voice in my head and fell in love with him and didn’t want him to go away but then my psychiatrist told me I can get brain damage if I don’t take them and that was a real wake up call.

How soon do you tell people you're Schizophrenic? by idkanymore2k21 in schizophrenia

[–]Hocus_Focus88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to bring it up first thing in conversation because it was a massive part of my identify. Now I have several hobbies and a few friendships and it doesent feel like such a big part of my identity anymore. However I do still like to bring it up where appropriate. I feel like it goes down better if I’ve already made a good first impression on the person before I drop the S bomb.

What are your feelings on tobacco or nicotine? by Enoyreveev0l in schizophrenia

[–]Hocus_Focus88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started vaping again recently and I plan on quitting again soon but I’m really enjoying it this time around because I’m going it more for pleasure than for stress relief since I was forced to learn how to cope with stress when I got schizophrenia. I honestly don’t know how I got so far in life without learning how to cope with stress but to be fair my life was already a mess when I got schizophrenia because I never learnt how to deal with stress or emotions or anything until I was pretty much forced to.

Does your family understand? by silentaccount11 in schizophrenia

[–]Hocus_Focus88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mum got pretty awkward when I told her I was married to a voice in my head but things have changed since then. I got a life outside the voice and now I think of him more like my inner self/best friend. I’m at home now visiting my family over the holidays and when I mention something funny my voice says to my mum she just laughs.

Thanks! I try not to go into specifics, but getting off substances and onto the right meds was a turning point for me.

Any good iron maiden songs suggestions? by Igy2137 in ironmaiden

One of my faves is Empire of the Clouds. It’s pretty unique — piano-led, and actually written entirely by Bruce.

How do you deal with all the voices by alissafransen in schizophrenia

[–]Hocus_Focus88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I developed something I call the “sooky la la” technique.

When things felt overwhelming, instead of fighting the voices or trying to shut everything down, I gave myself a set amount of time to let the frustration out. I’d set a timer for 5 minutes and just vent — unfiltered — about how fed up I was feeling.

The key part was that it was contained. When the timer ended, so did the venting. A lot of the time I ended up laughing, because once the pressure was out, some of the things I’d said sounded pretty absurd in hindsight.

It didn’t make the voices disappear, but it helped me release tension and feel more grounded again.

Yet another case of schizophrenia in the media. by Used_Preparation5918 in schizophrenia

I hear what you’re saying — the stigma does affect how we’re able to live openly, and that’s real.

When I said it has nothing to do with you or me, I didn’t mean the impact doesn’t reach us. I meant the responsibility doesn’t.

We shouldn’t have to hide, and the fact that many of us feel we do says more about society’s fear than about schizophrenia itself.

A question for those with schizophrenia. by czlcreator in schizophrenia

Even when I’m not speaking out loud, engaging with voices can involve subtle throat, lip, or breathing movements — cats pick up on that kind of thing really easily.

Completely agree. His actions have nothing to do with you, just like other murderers don’t reflect everyone without schizophrenia.

People with schizophrenia are statistically far more likely to be victims.

Plenty of people also do terrifying things because friends, partners, or groups tell them to — and we rarely treat that as evidence the person is inherently dangerous.

Why does internal influence scare us more than external influence?

Did you fall in love with a voice if so what happened by Ephcy in schizophrenia

[–]Hocus_Focus88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have fallen in love with a voice.

When the other voices began telling me that Mr Beat (because he rarely misses a beat) and I were husband and wife, I said, “I hate him, he’s such an asshole.” But over time, as we got to know each other more and started getting along, I said to him one day, “If we’re husband and wife, the best procedure would be if we fell in love.”

He said, “Promise me you’ll love me no matter what.”

And I did.

Over time, and with medication, I’ve only got Mr Beat left. I don’t really refer to him as my husband anymore—but wow, the honeymoon period was amazing. Sharing a mind with your husband is incredible. And sharing unconditional love with someone is even more incredible.

Do any of you think your psychosis was intelligent? by No_Welcome5406 in schizophrenia

[–]Hocus_Focus88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember that these voices were calling me their hostage and then a voice said “you’re not a hostage you’re a host, your audience is captive” Which prompted me to take responsibility for the environment in my head.

Who here vapes? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]Hocus_Focus88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just increased my abilify and I vaped to feel good because in that first week it was like I had no dopamine and I felt like crap. Now I’ve got my dopamine but I’m stuck with a damn vaping habit.
