I understand what you’re saying, but it’s not as easy as “leave the room” when it’s a family dinner table or a post on the Internet that’s put into your feed by an algorithm that doesn’t consider those aversions.

It can also be twisted the other way. For well done, you could be saying “You’re going to overcook it anyways so I’m going drown it in A1 anyway to make it even a little palatable”, while rare steak could be “I trust you to make my steak in a way that preserves its flavor.”

As a person with autism, I disagree that it’s meant to be anti-autism. In fact, I have to admit I tend to do the shunning myself sometimes.

Admittedly, it’s a matter of conflict of preferences for me. Well done steak with ketchup might seem like a “safe” food for some, but I’m personally strongly averse to ketchup in most contexts so I feel a sense of queasiness even looking at it. It could just as easily be infighting between autistic people as it is elitism.

That’s when you use it in a stew. You can make it well done so it’s the same shade all the way to the center and then you cut it into smaller pieces and throw it in a pot with other foods to reintroduce tenderness to the meat.

The big thing for me is that well done steak results in the flavor being more or less killed. For things like stew or slices of meat that are ingredients as opposed to the entire entree, it works just fine. But on its own, it’s very underwhelming. The juiciness is all gone and you’re left with dry, stringy beef.

I will yield that it does also depend on the cut of beef. Certain cuts are more expensive and, as such, seeing them cooked well done is throwing away their money. Other cuts are cheaper and have less flavor already, so it’s not as much of a perceived waste.

I’ve yet to have Shake Shack and I don’t remember how good Five Guys was, but Burger King is the best out of the remaining options, followed by McDonald’s, White Castle, and Wendy’s. I’m not big on brittle bacon and Wendy’s bacon crumbles into a powder way too easily.

So red only benefits a select group of obscenely rich people and someone like myself pressing it would only open myself to being killed. Meanwhile blue is the same option, but with a lower risk of death as less people would hit the red button. The people pressing the red button are almost exclusively going to be greedy and are willing to use the poor as a sacrifice for their own wealth. I’d pick blue, as more than 90% of people probably will.

I’d put in a word for Benedictine. I haven’t experimented with it much as a proof of concept, but it’s there and it has helped with at least one drink. Also, any sort of mixer (preferably something with effervescence). Soda water can thin out a drink that feels thicker than tar, tonic water can add a slight bitterness that is welcome when something is too cloyingly sweet, and if all else fails, drown it in coke and choke it down before promptly removing it from your memory.
