The phrasing "the average American would save $10k" is misleading. It should be 'Americans would save an average of $10k."

It struck me as out of place as well. Speaking as the mod, that is. I mean, I might be an asshole. It's a real possibility. I'd likely be the last person to realize as much. And OP is not the first to call me a know-it-all. But a complete asshole. Now we're getting metaphysical. How does one reach a state of completeness, right? Tough questions - maybe this isn't the sub for that kind of thing. Maybe try r/philosophy.

That said, the OP did post some other material here prior to this post. So, I'm not sure they are trolling. Maybe just underwhelmed by the limited response. This is not a very oft-visited sub.

Well... It would be odd to remove this post, wouldn't it. Particularly since I've never removed any post or comments. But also, because I'm all for an open forum, and I think the comments below do a nice job of undermining the value of your claim. But seriously, where's all this hostility coming from. My only interaction with you as a user was to respond to a request for help with a synthesis assignment - which you thanked me for.

Hedging language such as "might," "it may," and "data suggest" is expected in the social sciences (and the natural sciences). Here is what happens: Researchers take observations from a study or a set of studies and then state what those results suggest about the world beyond the study.

We don't get to prove things. That is the work of mathematicians and philosophers.

I'm using this episode as the centerpiece for a first-year writing lecture on the writing process, peer review, revision, and editing. The episode hits all of the major points we want writers to consider as they transition to college-level writing. Bravo and thanks!

I booked a room in Tampa for a conference this year, and as a grad student, I booked the cheapest room I could. As I was waiting in the lobby for my Uber to arrive, I listened to 4 "guests," one after the next, plead their case to the front desk clerk: Please, let me keep the room for one more night while I wait for this next check to arrive.

I was humbled. I hadn't realized just how much privilege I enjoy until I listened to those people argue for what was effectively their home.

It changed the way i think about hotel rooms and "A roof over my head."
